Google, the most popular search engine in the world, summarizes the entries, phrases and words that were most frequently entered in the search field and that were gaining popularity the fastest. In 2023, as in previous years, the list includes both current topics and domestic problems and entertainment. This time, however, elections were undoubtedly king. In the top ten most frequently entered terms in Google, the top ones were dominated by elections. 2023 election results, 2023 elections and the National Electoral Commission are the top three. Poles also often asked Google about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Legionella, the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the Million Heart March. But we didn’t live on politics and news alone in 2023.

How does it present itself? Entertainment was equally important at Google in 2023. Poles asked about the films “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie”. No wonder, almost the entire Internet was alive with these two premieres in the summer. Among the domestic productions, the most popular ones were “Zielona granita”, “Heaven in Hell”, “Znachor” and “Ch³opi”. What else did Poles ask? About concerts of Beyonce, Imagine Dragons, PRO8L3M, Ed Sheeran and Depeche Mode, memes after the elections and with Szymon Hołownia, Bejba, the series “Wednesday” and “The Last of Us”.

As every year, we also had many questions for “Uncle Google”. There were serious issues as well as phrases that put a smile on people’s faces. We were interested in prices, but also in definitions. Poles wanted to know how much a lumberjack, a camel, copper or… a capybara cost. There were also questions about the penalty for killing a mosquito, how old Pamela Anderson is, and how many knees a dog has. What else was included in the Google search report?
Questions about what a referendum is, bambik and PPK, what an implosion is, what the Speaker of the Sejm, the Senate and creatine do, when Iga Świątek plays, when will World War III happen, how to get infected with legionella and how to bleed the radiator, how to make banana bread and nettle slurry, why isn’t Kurek playing and Kubacki isn’t jumping today… We were also looking for recipes for wattles, faworki, homely sausage, broad beans, rice with milk, mini kiwi, linseed and pork loin. We turned to Google just as often for advice on spelling and homework. There is no denying that it was an interesting year.
