“Kevin Alone in New York” censored. Viewers surprised. “That was the funniest scene!”

“Home Alone” is very popular not only in Poland. British viewers also love watching this production between “Piggies in a Blanket” and another helping of turkey with cranberries. This year they were treated to a censored version.

Swearing, insults, nudity, violence, prostitution, consuming harmful substances. You may not believe it, but all this is included in one of the most popular Christmas family films in the world – the production known in Poland as “Home Alone in New York”, the second part of “Home Alone”. These *drastic* scenes mean to some parents that children should not watch this film without appropriate parental supervision and a necessary dose of explanation of the world. Innocent children’s ears should not hear such brutal curses as “bloody hell”, and their eyes should be protected from nudity (the scene in which Kevin loses his swimming trunks after jumping into the pool). It would seem that an appropriate dose of censorship is indicated here.

‘Kevin Alone in New York’ censored in UK…

Perhaps the station’s employees responsible for broadcasting the cult film last Christmas on ITV had a similar assumption. Viewers received a neutered “Kevin Alone in New York.” It is not very clear what key the censors used. One of the characteristic scenes in which the thief Marv is fried with electricity to such an extent that his skeleton is visible under the skin has disappeared.

It is unclear why this particular scene caused concern. X users rightly point out that there are even worse things in movies, not to mention productions that can generally be watched on TV before 10 p.m.

This was the funniest scene!

I thought I had the wrong movies. I don’t understand why they didn’t show it… – wondered the commenters on X.

…and in Canada

This is not the first time “Kevin” has been touched by the punitive finger of censorship. In 2019, viewers of the Canadian CBC television saw “Kevin Alone in New York” without the brutal scene with… Donald Trump. Why was this particular sequence left out of the film? It is unknown. The CBC representatives responsible explained that the film had been cut for television several times in recent years, and the scenes with Donald Trump were removed in 2014. And if so, it was unrelated to the presidential elections and his growing popularity.

A dozen or so years ago, a scene that was not in the first film also found its way onto the Internet. This is Harry and Marv singing their version of the Christmas song to the tune of “Santa Claus is coming to Town”:

You better watch out, you better not hide
If your door is open, we’ll go inside.
Harry and Marv have come to town!

We know when you went dancing
We know exactly what to take,
We know where you hid all the money
So come on, give us a moment.

It is unknown why singing Harry and Marv (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) were not included in the final version of “”. Fortunately, you can watch the scene below:

Although the holidays are over, you will still be able to watch Kevin on Polish television. On the first days of the new year, of course, Polsat will show it: “Kevin Alone in New York” will be broadcast on the main channel on January 1 at 8:00 p.m. and on January 2 at 8:05 a.m. “Home Alone”, although it is a Christmas Eve classic, will also be repeated – on the Polsat Film channel, on January 2 at 6:50 p.m. and on January 4 at 4:40 p.m.
