. There have been many topics – in recent days, the president vetoed the budget-related bill for next year, the financing of the Church, additional funds for the National Health Fund and, of course, the basic problem, according to the opposition (PiS), – confusion in the public media.
Donald Tusk did not hide his nervousness when he talked about the actions of PiS MPs. They have been intervening with deputies for over a week in the offices of the state media – in Polish Radio and in the headquarters of PAP. The management boards of these companies, previously elected by them, were dissolved by the current Minister of Culture – but they do not recognize this decision. They elected their own president of TVP (Micha³ Adamczyk), the new authorities of Telewizja Polska call “NeoTVP” (as opposed to TVPiS). . Tusk spoke on this matter.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk summarizes the activities around TVP
Depoliticizing the PiS propaganda mouthpiece, which the public media has become in recent years, was one of the main slogans with which the former opposition entered the elections. Polish Television was at the forefront of creating divisions, the famous “horror strips” from news programs and minimal screen time for political rivals of Law and Justice (for some, e.g. Confederation during the election campaign, it was almost zero screen time) are now history. However, when making decisions to dissolve management boards and dismiss the presidents of public media, the Minister of Culture acts on the verge of the law and only the interpretation of the regulations determines whether his actions are consistent with the regulations or violate them. Donald Tusk also believes that it is a matter of interpretation.
While summarizing and criticizing PiS’s activities related to the confusion with public media, Donald Tusk revealed that he is up to date with the news on streaming services. At the press conference, he recommended one title – a recent hit:
Taking into account the situation in Poland, what PiS is doing – editor’s note) will go down in Polish history. This is rebellion at its worst, 18th-century version. I heartily recommend it to everyone, I won’t say which company, but there is a funny series called “1670”. It’s a comedy, but it’s been a long time since I’ve seen such an accurate portrayal of a part of the political scene as there. I had a lot of fun. But of course, just like legal regulations, the issue of sense of humor is subject to various interpretations. I had a lot of fun – he summed up
“1670” rules and… divides
“” is a Polish hit on Netflix. In accordance with the Roman principle of “divide et impera”, he divided Poland into two camps. One claims that the satire on the Sarmatians is completely unfunny, iconoclastic and disgraceful to Polish culture. The other camp applauds and says that “1670” simply rocks. As you can see, Donald Tusk belongs to the second group. It’s easy to deduce who belongs to the first group…
