“LGBT ideology destroys the family”, “Dictate of LGBT communities” – these are just some of the so-called strips that announced “Wiadomości” materials in recent years and targeted sexual minorities. After nearly 7 years of constant persecution and pointing out another of the thousand imaginary enemies of Poland, the end has finally come, but even the most rabid fans could not have expected such a “reversal of the switch”. Instead of avoiding the topic, “19:30” decided to touch on it. More texts about Polish news media can be found on the home page.
I am talking about the material from the Tuesday edition of “19:30” on December 26, when Marek Czyż announced the announcement of a new doctrine by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (one of the most important administrative institutions in the Catholic Church). The document allows clergy to bless same-sex couples and divorcees, but with the proviso that the Church still considers each of these cases to be a sin. “However, clergy are still divided on this issue,” said the host.
Painful “injury” to religious feelings. Statement by a former priest
The first guest of Bartłomiej Feletycki’s reportage was Fr. Jacek Prusak, but it was the performance of the theologian and former priest, Łukasz Kachnowicz, that aroused the most emotions. A man has been living in a homosexual relationship with another man for years. He presented his point of view on the new Vatican doctrine.
“LGBT+ people may feel disappointed by this document. (…) There are good intentions there. It is like an attempt at reaching out, some openness and a bow,” he said at the beginning. Then he announced that (…) in order for the Church to open up and be friendly and inclusive to LGBT+ people, the heart of teaching, which is exclusionary, must change. The possibility of receiving a blessing does not mean that the church accepts the weddings of same-sex couples,” he concluded.
In his material, Feletycki quoted the famous statement of Pope Francis, who said: “If someone is homosexual and seeks God with good will, who am I to judge him?” This statement was then commented on by a journalist from the Catholic Information Agency, in which he noted that the head of the Vatican was opening up to LGBT+ people.
Who cares about the impartiality of “7:30 p.m.”? That was easy to predict
Several parties were given the floor in “19:30”, but the impartiality of the material still enraged the employees and supporters of the former “Wiadomości”. Charges? A slip of the tongue by Marek Czyż, who used the word “Dyscanteria” instead of “Dicastery”. I wonder what Konrad Wąż thinks about this – before he became one of TVP’s leading propagandists and repeatedly took away the rights of heteronormative people, his portfolio includes completely perverse material. In 2015, for “Wiadomości”, he created a report about the LGBT+ Equality Parade and Community.
Sexual minorities in Poland are slowly convincing society that they are right, but we still have problems with tolerance towards others, some people are bothered by different political views, skin color, religion, and recently, more and more often, origin.
– An employee of “Wiadomości” informed then, only to change direction 180 degrees a year later.
