Jan Sojda was called the king of Zrębin. He was one of the richest inhabitants of the village and enjoyed great respect among the local community. Many people wanted to maintain good relations with him, but people were afraid to enter into conflicts with him. In 1948, he was convicted of raping a girl with whom he was grazing cows. Jan Roj, a member of the Citizens’ Militia Volunteer Reserve, took part in Sojda’s arrest. This is where it all started.
The Połaniec affair. What happened 47 years ago?
First, Jan Sojda’s friend shot Roj’s 10-year-old son. He said he was aiming at the dog and hit the boy accidentally. He received a suspended sentence and the case was classified as an accident. In 1976, it took place between Stanisław Łukaszka and Krystyna Kalita, Jan Roj’s granddaughter. During the wedding party, Jan Sojda’s sister was noticed taking cold meat from the party. She also asked for tableware to be given to her. This information quickly spread throughout the village, which angered Jan Sojda, for whom the family’s good name was the most important thing. When Christmas came, the inhabitants of Zrębin went to midnight mass. Among them were Stanisław and Krystyna and Krysia’s 12-year-old brother, Mieczysław. Jan Sojda tricked all three of them out of the church and did not let them get into the car. So they decided to walk home. Then three vehicles followed them. Among the passengers were Jan Sojda, his brother-in-law Józef Adaś and 30 other people.
They killed three people in front of thirty people. None of them reported it
When the car passed Łukaszków and Mietek, it intentionally hit the boy. Józef Adaś got out of the vehicle with a wheel wrench and started punching Stanisław. Pregnant Krystyna started to run away, but the criminals also caught her and beat her with the same key. They dragged the body to the road, where they killed Stanisław. At that time, Miecio was still alive. After being hit, his leg was broken. Sojda’s son-in-law got into the car and ran over the 12-year-old’s head, causing the boy’s death. Everything was observed by the passengers of the bus. Later, Jan Sojda ordered them to kiss the cross of the rosary and swear silence.
He also bribed them with large sums of money. The next day it turned out that 14-year-old Staś Strzępek, Miecio’s friend, witnessed the crime. He was supposed to shout out in front of Józef Adaś’s house that he had murdered his friend. The criminals tried to bribe the boy, but to no avail. They started threatening his family, but the 14-year-old was adamant. He wanted to testify in court and he did so, as a result of which Józef Adaś was arrested. Jan Sojda and two of his assistants were also accused of murder. 30 witnesses of the crime never broke the conspiracy of silence because they were afraid of Sojda’s revenge. Józef Adaś and Jan Sojda were executed in 1982. The inhabitants of Zrębin still do not want to talk about the crime.
