Due to its contrasting coloration, the wall clay is often confused with a wasp. It is a medium-sized insect from the family of gnats that appeared in Poland in the 1960s and since then its population has been systematically increasing. How to get rid of it if it appears in your house?
Is wall cop venomous? It may sting
The wall clay is an insect with a long and slender black and yellow body that can reach up to several centimeters in length. It is active from May to September, and its presence is usually evidenced by characteristic cocoons made of mud and clay, which can be found on walls, in blinds, books, wardrobes and various crevices. It is worth knowing that despite its bright coloring, reminiscent of wasps, the wall clay is not dangerous or aggressive towards humans. Sometimes it stings them, but it is not painful and most often caused by the need for self-defense.
What does a wall cop do? It will help get rid of spiders
Adults of the wall clay hunt (which they do very well), but they do not eat them themselves, as their main food is nectar. They place their victims in nests, where the larvae eat them. So if you don’t like spiders and the company of yellow and black insects doesn’t bother you, it’s worth making friends with them. If you are not a fan of this type of roommates, it is best to buy wasp and hornet repellents. Homemade repellents in the form of mint or eucalyptus oils will also work.
How to fight a wall cop? Make a homemade trap
Ready-made products are not the only way to get rid of wall cop from your apartment. Instead, it is worth constructing an effective trap. Since cops usually live alone, catching them is not difficult. Just cut a plastic bottle in half, pour sweet juice into the bottom part to attract it and close it with the upper part, but with the neck down. Once you catch an adult, you can take it away from your home and remember to remove the nests when you return. Afterwards, take a closer look at the ventilation and secure it, as this is how cops most often get inside. In addition, it is worth installing nets in the windows.
