Colombian singer, composer and musician Lisandro Meza died on Saturday, December 23 at the age of 86 after being admitted to a clinic in Sincelejo for several weeks.
Known as the Macho of America, Meza had been in intensive care in the city of Sincelejo since December 6. The specialized clinic La Concepción S.AS. issued a statement announcing the artist’s death.
“His musical legacy will remain connected to our culture, in honor of his career and contribution to the spread of traditional roots.”

Meza was born in El Piñal, Sucre department (region of Colombia), on September 26, 1937 and over time he became a versatile artist who played several instruments very well, such as the accordion, piano, guitar, bass, the tiple , the cuatro, the tumbadora, the coffin and the bagpipes.
As the years passed and his musical talent showed, Lisandro Meza conquered other frontiers, making triumphant visits to Ecuador, Chile, Peru, Central America, Mexico and the United States.
Great successes remain in the memory of his fans, such as the Cumbia of love And Baracunatana. Regarding the latter topic, the Colombian group Aterciopelados popularized it in the 1990s.
