An employee of “19:30” on TVP told us about the work behind the scenes. “The atmosphere is combative”

Two issues of the new TV daily on TVP1, which replaced “Wiadomości”, are behind us. Even though the team started working a few weeks ago, it still has to work in spartan conditions. In an interview with Gazeta.pl, one of the documentarians of “19:30” revealed what their work is like both in the newsroom and in the field. He describes the atmosphere at Woronicza Street as a “Czech film”, and the meetings between the new reporters and the politicians of the former government are full of negative emotions.

At the beginning of the month, many people were looking forward to the last edition of TVP’s “Wiadomości” with Danuta Holecka. The event created on Facebook gathered over 120,000 people. interested parties, but due to many perturbations, this was not reflected in the viewing results. No one knew for sure when the head of the former TV daily would appear for the last time, and Holecka herself was vacillating in her decisions, which we informed about on an ongoing basis.

However, the new television daily TVP1 boasts record viewership. As they reported, the first edition of “19:30” was watched by a total of 4.29 million viewers, which is a much better result than the average viewership of “Wiadomości” in recent years. Many Poles wanted a change in public media and probably turned on the TV out of curiosity to see it with their own eyes.

The “19:30” team works under “supervision”. They are accompanied by opponents and policemen

However, we were curious what the implementation of the change looks like from behind the scenes. We managed to talk to the documentary filmmaker of “7:30”, who wants to remain anonymous. He told us what the atmosphere is like in the newly created newsroom of the program, which is currently located in one of the TVP Sport studios, because TAI still employs employees employed during the so-called good change.

The atmosphere is quite combative. People like Radosław Poszwiński still walk the corridors [dawny pracownik TVP Info – przyp. red.] or other people from outside who are associated with the former government. There is no control. They can enter the studio and start shouting: ‘What right do you have to be here?’ In addition, police patrols appear every now and then, desealing the archives and removing physical locks to the rooms. It looks a bit like a ‘Czech film’ – reports an employee of ’19:30′

As for the guidelines from the new management, our interlocutor emphasized that the most important thing is to completely distance ourselves from what was before. – Paweł Płuska clearly said that it was to be a professional and non-political project that was to herald a new opening in public media. They want us to follow the example of the BBC, which can be seen, for example, in the opening credits of the program. So aesthetically the British model will be replicated, but whether it will also succeed intellectually remains to be seen – he adds.

Behind the scenes of the Sejm, they face hatred from politicians, not former employees

We also asked whether the new TVP reporters had contact with the former team, which is still at TAI, but some of them have already started to appear on the right-wing TV Republika. Our interlocutor indicates that former employees still have access to some TVP social media and can report posts by the new editorial team to the portals’ administration. But on the other hand, he says that notices of termination are being sent successively and soon people who worked in entertainment will also receive them, but he does not give specific names.

The documentary filmmaker of the TVP1 television daily admits that a much bigger problem for the “19:30” reporters are the politicians of the United Right, who do not recognize the changes in Telewizja Polska.

The phrase ‘You, you f***ing son of a bitch’ was uttered at one of the reporters by a United Right politician. Then they almost came to blows. They identify us with the new government and consider us political activists. They do not currently accept these changes and this may be a multi-month process during which polarization may increase. For now, they don’t know exactly what to do, but maybe they will be disciplined and they won’t want to talk to us at all – he admits.

At the end of the conversation, he mentions that the organization of work in these conditions is very difficult and practically everyone performs activities that are not their duties. He revealed that the prepared materials are delivered on a pendrive, and there were connection problems during Thursday’s live coverage from Brussels. When asked when the “19:30” team will be able to return to the TAI building, he states that it is “in the next two weeks.
