Have you switched from glasses to contact lenses? Make sure you don’t get a ticket

On the back of your driving license you will find not only information about your rights, but also any restrictions that may have been imposed on you. This applies primarily to people with visual impairments. So far you have been wearing glasses and now you wear contact lenses? You better watch out. You may get a ticket.

A driving license is a document that confirms our qualifications and authorizes us to drive motor vehicles. While the information contained on the first page does not surprise anyone, the codes used at the back at the bottom may raise doubts. Especially since if you don’t follow them, you may face unpleasant consequences. What do the numbers in the last row of the table mean?

What medical tests are required for drivers? Check the code on the judgment

When taking a driving course, you should first visit a driver’s doctor. The same applies if you already have permissions, but for some reason the doctor issued them to you for a limited period during your first visit. During such a visit, the specialist will check your health, including your eyesight. If you wear glasses or contact lenses due to a defect, a special code will appear in the decision issued by him, which you will then find on the back. Which means?

Where are the driving license codes? Check the bottom of the table

People who have vision problems and a driving license will find information on the restrictions imposed on them on the back of the form. It’s a four-digit code that starts with 01, which means they must use vision correction or eye protection. The next two digits contain more detailed information on this topic, i.e.:

  • code 01.01 means that the driver is obliged to wear glasses while driving,
  • 01/02 means he has to wear contact lenses,
  • 01/03 – safety glasses,
  • 01/04 – tinted glasses,
  • 01/05 – eye patch,
  • 01/06 – contact lenses or glasses.

You used to wear glasses, now do you wear contacts? You can get a ticket

While the markings seem simple in theory, in practice they can cause problems. For example, when previously you only wore glasses, so the code 01.01 appeared on the form, but now you have decided to change it and wear contact lenses, and when you sit behind the wheel, you should wear glasses. Otherwise, you can get PLN 1,500. The same applies to the opposite situation, i.e. when you have entered the code for your glasses, but you were caught driving with your glasses on. Therefore, if you use both options, it is worth telling your doctor to enter the code 01.06, because it is on the basis of his decision that restriction codes are entered in your driving license. During the health interview, indicate that you use both lenses and glasses. If you have a form with a wrong code, it is best to replace it. In such a case, go to the office with a new decision containing the appropriate code.
