Maciej Maleñczuk about disco polo stars on TVP. “Let them go back to the barn”

Maciej Maleñczuk does not have the best opinion about musicians who create songs in the disco polo genre. When asked about the changes awaiting TVP, he mentioned them – and did not try to be delicate.

and Wojciech Waglewski were guests of the “Onet Rano” program. The musicians had the opportunity to speak about the metamorphosis that will be undergone in the coming weeks and months. They did not hide their satisfaction with the current state of affairs. They also expect that quality will return to Polish Television – and this means giving up disco polo music.

Maciej Maleńczuk has no illusions about the place of disco polo stars

Disco polo stars found their audience among TVP viewers. They were given airtime by none other than Jacek Kurski, who admired not only Sławomir Świerzyński, but also Zenek Martyniuk and Marcin Miller. Creators associated with disco polo music found their place on Polish Television – their performances became an obligatory element of all events organized by TVP. There was even a full-length film about Zenek Martyniuk.

Experts complained about the decline in the quality of TVP under Jacek Kurski’s rule. When Mateusz Matyszkowicz took over the station, it was unofficially said that disco polo would disappear. However, although the president himself is apparently not a fan of this type of entertainment, the wind of change has not blown to TVP. “Balanced and diverse TVP programming offer” and “great interest from viewers” – this explained why disco polo stars still appeared at the “Dancing National” in 2022.

When questioned by Beata Tadla, Maleńczuk did not hide his frustration when it comes to the presence of this genre on public television:

Let them go back to the barn where they came from and stop spreading themselves on public television and taking state money – he was outraged. He also mentioned that he was offered to perform at the Boys’ anniversary. – They wanted me to sing something for them. I regret to say that I absolutely refuse. You take money for your plagiarisms, for releasing everything from the preset, instead of playing on the keyboard, you press start and for that you take PLN 120,000?! – commented Maleńczuk.

Wojciech Waglewski did not remain in debt. He summarized the “downward trend” on public television, which included allowing disco polo music to be broadcast:

Some creativity should return, at least in the public media. People should, for example, learn the difference between a trumpet and a saxophone by watching television, because it is impossible at the moment, said Waglewski.
