How ‘Star Wars’ Is Different from ‘Rebel Moon,’ Netflix’s New R-Rated Series Premiering Dec. 22

“Rebel Moon”: The first part of “Girl of Fire” arrives on Netflix on December 22, a few days after the UK premiere. The movie stars Sofia Boutella (41), who was the villain in the movie “The Mummy” starring Tom Cruise.

She was joined in the cast by Charlie Hunnam, Ray Fisher, Djimon Hounsou, Jena Malone, Corey Stoll, Ed Skrein, Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, Cary Elwes and Anthony Hopkins.

It is a space odyssey in the style of Star Wars directed by Zack Snyder, the same one from the movie 300 or Justice League, and it is considered the director’s most personal project, according to the specialized website Fotogramas.

The plot of “Rebel Moon” focuses on the fact that a young woman who used to work for the Empire, an organization that imposed oppression on the people, will now become a warrior who leads the attack against them by recruiting more people to her cause so that she can free the moon from the Veldt.

Following its UK premiere on December 15, film news outlets have been collecting reactions describing Snyder’s production as “epic”, “fascinating” and “flowing well”.

Although there was no lack of criticism of the director for focusing “on great action scenes”, which brought the film closer to the R classification, which includes more understandable themes for adults.

Rebel Moon vs. Star Wars

Although the filmmaker doesn’t mind being compared to Star Wars, he points out the main difference between the two films.

“Of course Star Wars influenced me because they are iconic. “We have space fascists and they have space fascists,” Zack Snyder admitted in an interview with Collider.

“Really, I don’t mind being compared. However, I will say that our PG-13 version of Rebel Moon is pushed to the limit, in fact, I think the 18+ version is much better understood than the other one,” he stated.

For the director, the scenes in Rebel Moon show the real implications of some actions. It is an extended version that can be viewed “from the perspective of an adult” with graphic violence and explicit content that may also be developed in the second part, which is scheduled to premiere in April 2024, according to E.
