Friends and colleagues say goodbye on social media. Condolences have already been expressed by, among others, Marcin Wojciechowski, Dominika Wielowieyska, Danuta Woźniacka and Ewa Siedlecka. It was she who revealed the cause of the famous journalist’s death.
Ewa Wanat is dead. The journalist was seriously ill
It turns out that Wanat has been fighting a malignant tumor for the last few months. Despite the poor prognosis, she didn’t really believe that she might die.
“Can you believe that I’m going to die? – she asked in the summer, when she was diagnosed with cancer with metastases everywhere. – Because I don’t believe it – she added. In fact, it’s hard to believe. I think she simply penetrated into a parallel world – and there she does confusion. She didn’t fully believe in death. She fought – as she had throughout her life. Rebellious, stubborn, she banged her head against the wall, and sometimes she broke it. This time she didn’t,” wrote Ewa Siedlecka on her blog.
Ewa Wanat was the editor-in-chief of TOK FM radio for almost ten years. Later, she took over the position of editor-in-chief and program director of Polish Radio RDC. She has had several publications to her credit, including the book “Chuć, i.e. normal conversations about perverse sex”, which she wrote together with sexologist Andrzej Depko. In turn, for the collection of reportages “Deutsche Nasza. Reportaże Berlinskie” she received the award. Beata Pawlak.
In 2010, she was the winner of the Jacynta Award, which was given to her “for open, courageous journalism, full of openness to social problems.” In 2013, she also received the Gold Cross of Merit. She had been living in Berlin for several years. In her last entry before her death, she asked for respect for her privacy and not to contact her.
