The process of Ram

The composition took place over a whole year, and within that the recording of each of the songs lasted approximately 26 consecutive days of “confinement” in the Codependiente studio, located in Mexico, the country where he lived for two years until his return to Ecuador a month ago. The post-production phase lasted another year.

This album was produced and mixed by Jodorowsky, and mastered by Canadian Philip Shaw Bova.

“I had the idea to make songs with guitar and voice, songs that can be played anywhere, anytime, alone or with a band. With Mauro, there were songs he helped me finish, others he added some to riffs, and this whole process was very beautiful. Most of them he had something to do with it, like a touch,” he says, continuing to say it was a team project for both of them.

“He traveled to Mexico alone to record the guitars, but because I thought it was important that Mauro was also present during my part of the recording, he returned. That was like a requirement. We’ve been working together for so long that it’s already become an essential part of recording my albums. We understand each other very well, he already knows my style, my universe, my taste and my way of composing,” says the 33-year-old from Guayaquil.

Paola Navarrete in Mexico

During his stay in the Aztec country, He couldn’t suppress the great contrast that exists between our music scene and the Mexican one.

“The difference is terrible. What’s happening is absurd In Mexico there is an unreal number of proposals, projects, soloists, bands, unreal cultural events. There the music is endless. In any genre, and it’s very crazy, entertainment moves in a very wild way. This means, for example, that Taylor Swift plays in one place, and Mon Laferte, Depeche Mode or Guns N’ Roses in another. That can all happen there on the same day and there are concerts with more than 100,000 people.”

“It’s insane, and I can’t explain the amount to you shows there are also little ones. I think there’s even a saturation of music, so compared to Ecuador it’s obviously a completely different world. Even if it’s a concert by an unknown artist, people in Mexico still go just because. I feel like that doesn’t happen in Ecuador, here people don’t just go, they don’t go to discover music, and that should change. Obviously the uncertainty makes it much more complex, but I only realized what was happening in Mexico when I lived there,” he explains.

This event took place at La Mezcalería and featured Mojo Myst as guest artist. “I have worked a lot for this. It was the first time I played guitar and vocals live. There were about 50 people there, I wanted it to have a homely atmosphere, I put a bench in the middle of the room and I sang like that, just like when I composed the songs. There was a spectacular connection,” he says.
