At the Maac: A cabaret show that promotes brotherhood and art between Ecuadorians and Venezuelans, the only function

Migration is a reality that more than one has had to live. For studies, for work or to seek opportunities outside the land where they were born. The artist Mario Suarez he remembers that he came to Guayaquil from Palosolo (El Oro), when he was 17 years old, to study Theater Creation at the University of the Arts; he is now the director of a large tribute to migrant artists living in Guayaquil.

With the premise that “Art does not fit in a suitcase, nor within the limits of a territory ”, Suárez will present The Caribbean cabaret on the liberator’s route, a multidisciplinary show that brings together on stage 20 artists of Venezuelan and Ecuadorian nationalities in a single function. East Thursday, December 16 in the auditorium of the Anthropological Museum of Contemporary Art.

The staging is part of an initiative that promotes the International Organization for Migration (IOM), associated with the United Nations. According to Suárez, who is also an actor, the purpose of this project was to bring together professional artists from the city in the condition of migrants and publicize your talent, which might otherwise go unnoticed, while simultaneously raises awareness on this problem that touches even art.

“Every year a flock of swallows arrives in Europe from Africa. With this idea as a principle, of something that comes once a year, we think it would be just as painful not to appreciate foreign artists who live in Guayaquil, at least once ”, defends the artist.

As its name indicates, the show follows the format cabaret, which presents a story in pictures, where each fragment highlights an artistic form, mixing theater, dance, musicians, acrobats, among others, explains the director. “I’ll be there with Mucho Lote, a comedy character who is spinning each fragment,” he adds.

Among the names that stand out in the Venezuelan cast are the playwright and actress Irlen Anciani, who premieres the work The photographer; the singers Deisy Valverde (alto) and Joan Alvarez (baritone) as well as llanero folklore dancers. While the Ecuadorian payroll presents Patricio Jaramillo, director of the Guayaquil Youth Philharmonic Orchestra; the dancers Byrone Prieto Y Helen Chaca, from the coastal dance company rear wing; and the Guayaquil balletista Maria Clara Ambrosini, who was sensitized to the theme of the meeting, because while he was training as a ballet player he also changed cities on different occasions.

“I lived in Argentina for two years and in the US for a year and a half. I was able to learn what it is to be a migrant, that is why I quickly became involved with this proposal. What’s more, we all know someone, a family member, a friend who has migrated to Ecuador. So we should all be able to have empathy on this issue ”, says the interpreter who directs and instructs at the Artium academy. She will present Death of the swan, a piece that belongs to the repertoire of Swan lakes.
