Wednesday’s edition of “Wiadomości” began with a special report from Piłsudski Square in Warsaw. President Andrzej Duda, together with the president of the Institute of National Remembrance, Karol Nawrocki, took part in the action of lighting the so-called lights of freedom. This is an action commemorating the 42nd anniversary of the introduction of martial law in Poland. The Institute of National Remembrance is behind the organization of the event, which is to commemorate the victims of the 1981 crime.
After this pompous “lajwa”, Edyta Lewandowska, who also hosted Tuesday’s “Wiadomości”, greeted the viewers. As they say – still unofficially -, Danuta Holecka has already left TVP for good. Apparently she is no longer on the schedule and has already terminated her full-time contract. The head of “Wiadomości” is still silent on this matter, but according to the portal’s source, her duties were taken over by the current deputy director of TAI, Marcin Tulicki.
TVP’s “News” began with perfunctory materials about the new government
The first two materials concerned the swearing in of the new government by the president. In the first one, special attention was paid to Prime Minister Tusk taking the oath. Later, a photo of him with Mateusz Morawiecki from the Chancellery of the Prime Minister was shown. Then, profiles of the new members of the government were presented and it was stated that less trusted people of the Prime Minister took over less important ministries. We then saw a recording of the swearing-in of the Minister of Equality, Katarzyna Kotula.
However, the second one was entirely focused on Andrzej Duda, who was presented as the one who would guard security and the constitution. The words of the president assuring him that he wants to cooperate with the coalition were recalled. A regular guest, the so-called national media, i.e. Michał Karnowski, who stated that the Polish rule of law is doing very well and reminded that the role of Andrzej Duda in the legislative process is very important.
The next few materials talked about things that most Poles clearly do not live by nowadays. Some of them also concerned very important topics, such as the anniversary of the introduction of martial law, but it would seem that current politics is the most important on this day. However, before we returned to it, we saw material about the dismantling of a cheating gang using the “grandchild method”, in which the Central Bureau of Investigation contributed greatly, or an account of the 150th anniversary of the Polish Museum in Rapperswil.
The strongest three materials were left almost until last. In each of them, the coalition was attacked
At this point I felt a bit tired, but subsequent materials created by: Adrian Borecki, Monika Borkowska and Krzysztof Nowina Konopka put me on my feet better than my morning coffee. I mentioned their names for a reason, because thanks to them, Wednesday’s edition of “Wiadomości” was at least a little reminiscent of those from the election campaign.
In the first one, Donald Tusk was reprimanded for not answering MPs’ questions after the Prime Minister’s exposé. It included many statements by Law and Justice MPs who stated that such behavior undermined the credibility of the October 15 Coalition. The author himself appeared inside and reminded that the counter for “100 specifics” had started for the first 100 days since Tusk was sworn in as prime minister. It was later suggested that there may already be disputes within the coalition.
However, the title of the creator of the most controversial material belongs to Monika Borkowska. It concerned the shameful behavior of Confederation MP Grzegorz Braun, or at least that’s what the title suggested. Most of the material targeted the ruling coalition and their voters, accusing them of hating Catholics. It started with a reminder of Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus’s protest regarding the pedophilia scandal, and later it was shown, among others: amateur recordings from then anti-government organizations or other unspecified xenophobic events.
The “eight-star policy” was the pillar of the campaign, Borkowska shouted, and her words were confirmed by an expert from the wPolsce.pl portal.
The penultimate material is a desperate appeal for help before the public media are taken over. The changes were criticized by the head of the National Media Council, Krzysztof Czabański, and later it was announced that a protest against the changes in TVP and Polish Radio was scheduled for Thursday. Behind its organization are former anti-communist oppositionists, i.e. Joanna Duda-Gwiazda and Andrzej Gwiazda. The material also suggested that the new government wants TVP to become more like TVN by showing recordings of the rival station’s building.
At the very end, the celebrations commemorating the 42nd anniversary of the introduction of martial law in Poland, organized by the Institute of National Remembrance, returned. A summary of President Andrzej Duda’s speech was shown, full of pathos, remembering the victims of the tragic event of December 13, 1981. After that, Edyta Lewandowska appeared on the TV screen for the last time and invited viewers to TVP Info, where the “Guest News” program was about to start.
