Although the antics of MP Grzegorz Braun on Tuesday, December 12 are very loud, the Confederation politician was already famous for controversies. In the previous, 9th term of office of the Sejm, he was the most frequently admonished or reprimanded member of the Sejm Ethics Committee of that term – as many as 16 times. But the buzz around his character was already ubiquitous long, long before he became involved in politics. As Braun himself points out, he is first and foremost a director. Grzegorz Braun is a Polish teacher by education, and the beginnings of his career are related to journalistic activities. He wrote for “Fronda”, worked for Radio Wrocław, and above all, became famous for his directing career. It was quite an obvious clue for him – his father Kazimierz was also a director, his uncle is Sam Juliusz Braun, former president of TVP and head of the National Broadcasting Council. Moreover, his film work was not a whim, as he had over 20 films to his credit.
He fought with Wałęsa and Jaruzelski. He cooperated with TVP
Braun’s most famous film is probably “Positive Pluses, Negative Pluses” from 2006, in which he presents the history of President Lech Wałęsa in terms of cooperation with the Security Services before 1989. The director was famous especially during an on-camera interview with the hero of the film. , which he easily threw off balance. Interestingly, the work was filmed in cooperation with TVP. Two years later, he made a sequel, “TW Bolek” about the work of the then historians of the Institute of National Remembrance – Sławomir Cenckiewicz and Piotr Gontarczyk on the book titled “SB a Lech Wałęsa. A contribution to biography.
He also filmed an interview – a river with the writer and futurologist Stanisław Lem and “I’m not a guinea pig” about the experiences of Wanda Półtawska (recently deceased) in the Auschwitz Birkenau concentration camp. He also assessed the person of General Wojciech Jaruzelski in the light of the behind-the-scenes decision to introduce martial law, titled “Comrade General Goes to War”. As one can deduce, he had not avoided politics long before his parliamentary career. He also touched on the issues of eugenics and the Smolensk disaster itself.
Not only the movie, but also the books. Conspiracy upon conspiracy
Braun’s professional activity also includes writing books. His work was particularly loud in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. He is one of the biggest deniers of the coronavirus, and in “I told you so” he questions the validity of the panic and considers the cataclysm itself to be an introduction to World War III. He also gained notoriety (in the well-known circles) for “A Year in the Condominium” from 2016, which polemicizes with the independence and sovereignty of Poland at the expense of world powers. We haven’t read it, but we know one thing – reading it must be a roller coaster ride.
