There was a lot of talk about the upcoming changes in the public media already during the election campaign. The opposition at that time promised to rebuild viewers’ trust in Telewizja Polska and emphasized that this was one of its priorities. After Mateusz Morawiecki failed to obtain a vote of confidence from the Sejm, Donald Tusk became prime minister again. For the current authorities in the public media, appointed by PiS, this means an imminent farewell to their positions.
Janusz Daszczyński the new president of TVP? He is one of the people selected for the position
Mateusz Matyszkowicz, who took over the role of president from Jacek Kurski in 2022, may soon say goodbye to his job. Among the possible successors to the head of Public Television, the name of Janusz Daszczyński, who has worked in this position, appears in discussions. He served as the president of TVP from June 2015 to January 2016. Then, the Sejm adopted an act extinguishing the mandates of members of public media management boards. Currently, Daszczyński sits on the Program Council on the recommendation of the Civic Coalition.
The candidate for the new president of TVP spoke about the upcoming changes. He presented his vision of repairing public media on Facebook. Daszczyński emphasizes that the most important thing for him is to settle accounts and separate from TVP. “Energetic restoration of truth and the rule of law in TVP SA. Immediate removal of propaganda programs from the air and the dismissal of the propagandists who created them. Introduction of programs highlighting the eight years of PiS rule; unmasking methods of manipulating public opinion. On-air presentation of the influence of propaganda and the effects of TVP’s partisanship on consciousness parts of society and the course of election campaigns in 2016-2023,” he points out.
Daszczyński presented a plan to rebuild TVP
In addition, the member of the Program Council who is nominated as the new president of TVP wants to focus on restoring the mission and pluralism in public media. For this purpose, according to him, it will be necessary to replace the staff. “Determining technical and ethical standards in information and journalistic programs created mainly by the Television Information Agency; defining information and journalistic goals, introducing credible journalists to the screen,” he writes.
Daszczyński also announces an audit of the past years in public media and the creation of a new organizational structure. It is important for him to rebuild the image of public television and rationalize thematic channels. I want to focus on the highest quality of content and education. This is to be achieved by “presenting the assumptions of the programming policy, systematic changes in antennas, thematic channels and portals, taking into account in particular the achievements of Polish and world artists. Promotion of Polish culture and art. Building partnerships with foreign television stations.”
Daszczyński’s goal after taking over as president of TVP will also be to reach younger audiences, expand the activities of public media on the Internet and a new human resources policy that will introduce a “new generation of employees” to the station.
