Record chases record. The Sejm on YouTube on Monday surpassed everything, and that’s not the end

On Monday, the broadcast of the Sejm session was watched not only by journalists – out of obligation. An exceptionally large number of citizens decided to watch what was happening in parliament. This is visible in specific numbers.

Four million views in less than 24 hours. First place on the timely card. The most watched live broadcast in the WORLD. Poles rushed to watch the broadcasts from the Sejm on YouTube. The Channel of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland broke further records.

The Parliament on YouTube is a hit around the world

The phenomenon of the Polish Parliament on YouTube has already been noticed outside our country. Poles have not been watching patostreamers and YouTubers for four weeks. Series and movies have gone by the wayside. Now the only thing that counts is the Sejm and broadcasts of its sessions. The first one was viewed almost a million times – and it was only a preview of what would happen in the following days.

The broadcasts quickly exceeded one million views. This is a lot considering the difficult conditions on YouTube – having to compete with YouTubers, music and ASMR channels. However, Monday’s broadcast was a hit. At the time of writing, it ended less than 15 hours ago and has been viewed over four million times. It’s a ten-hour broadcast, 4.1 million views – if a ranking of the most watched live broadcasts in the world were made today, our Sejm would easily be in the TOP5 of all time. The Polish parliament even surpassed the launch of the SpaceX rocket (4 million) and the presentation of the next model of Apple equipment (3.6 million).

On average, over 200,000 people watched it all the time. It also already has over 500,000 subscribers – it’s still far from the Indian Parliament, but it’s the most in Europe. Formally, the channel of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland already deserves a “silver button” from YouTube (you receive it after exceeding 100,000 subscriptions).

And that’s not the end

On Tuesday, during Donald Tusk’s exposé, the number of viewers watching the live broadcast from the Sejm remained at the level of 260-270 thousand viewers. There is no event or program more watched in Poland right now. This will be a broadcast that will most likely break Monday’s record. And this is still not the end – the swearing-in of Donald Tusk’s government is scheduled for Wednesday, we can expect that this event in Polish politics will also enjoy great interest.

And what next? Will interest in the Sejm wane? Most likely yes. However, it is clearly visible that there has been a certain change in Poles. Instead of going to the cinema to watch a movie, they went to watch the Sejm on the big screen. Instead of watching the episode on Netflix, they watched the Sejm on YouTube. Instead of watching “Difficult Matters”, they chose the Sejm on television. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that your interest in parliamentary work will send a clear signal to MPs – not only the press is looking at you. Everyone is looking at you. We are watching.
