The Board of Trustees of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao Foundation met yesterday, Monday, at the Bilbao museum under the presidency of Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu. At this meeting they reviewed this year and approved both the budget and the exhibition calendar for next year.

The 2024 exhibitions will begin in February with a retrospective dedicated to the Italian author Giovanni Anselmo. The programming will continue with an exhibition on pop art nourished by funds from the Guggenheim Collection.

In the month of March, the museum will present the sculptural practice of June Crespo, which will include an installation created specifically for the space that will host it. For its part, the abstract language of the Austrian artist Martha Jungwirth, the film work of Anthony McCall and a complete retrospective of the work of the Japanese Yoshitomo Nara can be seen starting in June. Already in autumn, the second floor of the museum will present the unique corpus of the Swedish author Hilma af Klint.

Regarding this year’s data, the museum has received 1,271,792 visits, 2% more than in 2022.

The press release sent by the museum explains that the Guggenheim has reached a self-financing percentage of 78.6%, so 3,800,000 euros of subsidies from the Basque Government and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia have been allocated to the purchase. of works of art.

Throughout 2023, the museum has acquired a painting by Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, the installation Infinity Hall of Mirrors – Wishing happiness for human beings from beyond the universe by Yayoi Kusama and four works from the series Public, Florence 2004 (2004), by photographer Thomas Struth.

The operating budget for 2024 will be 33,818,615, 3.5% higher than in 2023.
