“Yes, I can finally answer: Nicholas Hoult is Lex Luthor in Superman: Legacy and I couldn’t be happier. Last night we went out to dinner to celebrate and discuss how we can create a Lex that is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before and one you’ll never forget. “But James, we heard this weeks ago, why didn’t you tell us it was true?” Because even though we talked about it, it wasn’t final until a few days ago and I don’t want to tell you anything that isn’t certain. Anyway, here’s to Lex (and Nicholas!), one of my favorite DCU characters,” Gunn posted on his Instagram.

Hoult was considered, and even competed with, Superman David Corenswet and other actors for the role, but he didn’t get it. The actor is no stranger to comic books and superhero movies. Hoult played Beast in Fox’s X-Men films.

The premiere of Superman: Legacy is scheduled to July 11, 2025. Therefore, filming should begin sometime next year. This movie would be the reboot of the DC universe in theaters.
