Choosing a name for a newborn baby is usually a difficult decision for parents. No wonder, however, because (with some minor exceptions) it accompanies him throughout his life. , giving specific names is more important than we might think.

Unfortunately, in our country many names are associated with which make Poles able to subconsciously form an opinion and ideas about a given person, only hearing their name. Of course, this usually changes when you get to know it more closely, but you have to remember that you usually don’t have a second chance for a good first impression. To some extent, this may affect how others perceive us – including, for example, peers at school or later in life our superiors at work.

Can names make life difficult?

Of course, you shouldn’t judge anyone by name alone. However, at first impressions, it is sometimes difficult to beat psychology and the human subconscious. As it turns out, the female names with which we usually have not very nice associations are polonized versions of those popular abroad. It is i.a. Dżesika, Wanesa or Jenifer. The research shows that we associate these names with the low social status of parents who try to name the child in a “worldly” way.

In Poland, such differences between social groups are even more visible, because communism interrupted the continuity of the cultural tissue. If these groups knew that rare names do not make a special impression on wealthier people (…). And then this child with a “sophisticated” name has to deal with various reactions from the generally conservative Polish society

How to give names to avoid unpleasant associations?

The original names are beautiful, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with giving them, and no one should make fun of any name. However, it is the Polish versions of foreign names that are the biggest problem. It is worth considering carefully when naming your daughter. After all, no parent wants their child to be ashamed of their name in the future. It cannot be denied that foreign names are becoming more and more popular in Poland. When deciding on such, however, leave them in their original spelling.
