is a graduate of Polish philology at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. Already during her studies, she wanted to get involved in journalism and quickly began to put this plan into action. First, she wrote for “Nowohucki Biuletyn Solidarność”, and then she joined the editorial offices of “Gazeta Krakowska” and the conservative daily “Czas Krakowski”, where she gained experience.
Kolenda-Zaleska started her career on TVP. It was at Woronicza that she met her future husband
Her career gained momentum only in 1993, when she was hired as one of the hosts. Since then, she has been reporting on events in the country and talking about decisions passed by the Sejm. Interestingly, she was responsible for preparing religious topics, including: she commented on the pilgrimage of Pope John Paul II to Poland and Ukraine on an ongoing basis.
Working at TVP allowed her to spread her wings, but also influenced her private life. She met Grzegorz Zalewski, who was responsible for editing audiovisual materials at the station. Initially, their contacts were limited only to professional matters. Only over time the relationship became a bit more friendly and they finally became a couple. Eventually, they got married and soon welcomed the fruit of their love, their daughter Anna, into the world.
Kolenda-Zaleska’s transfer to TVN was a shock for many. What does a journalist do today?
In 2003, Kolenda-Zaleska wanted changes, which resulted in the end of cooperation with the public broadcaster. Shortly afterwards, she announced her promotion, which was the result of a transfer to the competitive TVN station, which received wide coverage in the media. First, she was a reporter for TVN24 and after just a few months she also got a job at . In the following years, she only strengthened her position in the industry, running numerous programs and information services, including: “Facts after facts” or “Morning Guest”.
However, television is not the only activity. In the years 2003-2010, she was also associated with Tok FM radio, where she hosted one of the programs. She finally resigned from her job when her main employer found this part of her professional activity competitive. Currently, Kolenda-Zaleska has returned to her roots. He regularly publishes columns in popular magazines, including: “Gazeta Wyborcza”, “Przekrój” and “Tygodnik Powszechny”.
