“Tadeusz Ross has died. A popular and well-liked artist, unforgettable Zulu Gula, and most of all a friend from the Warsaw Council. Great sadness” – wrote the deputy chairman of the Warsaw Council Sławomir Potapowicz in social media.
Tadeusz Ross is dead. Before he went to the Seym, he commented on reality as Zulu Gula
Tadeusz Ross was born in 1938. He was an actor, satirist and screenwriter, a graduate of the Theater Academy. Aleksander Zelwerowicz in Warsaw. He was a deputy of the 6th term of the Sejm (Civic Platform) and a member of the European Parliament of the 7th term, as well as a Warsaw councilor.
He was known primarily as the creator of satirical programs, incl. “Zulu-Gula” broadcast in 1992-96. On the broadcast, Ross appeared dressed in a distinctive yellow beret and red jacket, had a clip in his ear, and spoke, distorting his words. In this way, he commented on the political and social situation in the country. One of his catchphrases that became popular was the sentence:
Poland is a very interesting country.
He also created “Rossmówki” together with Piotr Fronczewski. He was also the author of the scripts for several episodes of the series “Miodowe lata”.
In 2006, Ross was elected a councilor in the capital city of Warsaw, starting from the list of the Civic Platform in Mokotów. A year later he obtained a parliamentary seat, and in 2009 he tried – this time without success – to join the European Parliament. In the elections in 2011, he did not renew the parliamentary seat, but in 2013 he became an MEP, replacing Rafał Trzaskowski.
After failing to sit in the European Parliament in 2014, he became a councilor in the Piaseczno poviat. In 2015, he tried to get into the Senate, but failed to get enough votes. In 2018, he again joined the city council in Warsaw. In 2019, he ran to the Sejm again as a candidate of the Civic Coalition.
