There is no single official price list for church services. However, based on information from various sources, it is possible to determine certain ranges that include the costs of administering individual sacraments. Many portals prepare new lists of “church” prices from year to year – especially since they change with inflation. As reported in March 2023 by the website “Fakt.pl” – citing the portal co laska.pl – the average national price for a wedding performed by a priest is approximately PLN 748.
However, this is not a rule. There will be parishes where the priest will be “satisfied” with a symbolic amount of PLN 50. More often, priests want PLN 100-200 or approximately PLN 300-400. But according to Eska.pl, there are also situations when they can reach a value of up to PLN 1,500-2,000.
How much for baptism?
And baptism? Here, too, it is difficult to clearly determine how much should be “put” in the envelope given to the priest. Typically, these amounts range from PLN 100 to several hundred, e.g. PLN 500. Of course, there will also be parishes where such a service will be free of charge.
There is usually a lot of controversy surrounding the burial fee. There are certainly people who believe that in such tragic situations as death, a priest should refrain from charging a fee. Most often, however, it is the other way around, and we have discussed this topic many times on Głos.gazeta.pl. Let us recall, for example, the story of one of the inhabitants of Łódź, from whom… the priest asked for PLN 700 for just a quarter of an hour of prayer.
According to Eska.pl, in the case of funerals there can be a large price range. A lot depends on the priest himself – some people will be satisfied with a symbolic “whatever” amount of PLN 50, but this happens less and less often. It usually costs several hundred zlotys.
