TasteAtlas is referred to as an online culinary encyclopedia or atlas. It contains over 10,000 products, dishes and drinks from all over the world, including those forgotten or not very popular, and the portal’s users can express their opinions and rate individual dishes. It is on the basis of these assessments that they are later created.
Polish dish again tops the TasteAtlas ranking. It is the worst-rated meat product in the world
Polish dishes often appear in TasteAtlas rankings. Some time ago, żurek was ranked the second best soup. In turn, czarna, a traditional blood soup, topped the rankings all over the world. The published ranking often causes controversy. This was the case with the dumplings ranking, which did not include dishes from Poland, or , which did not include donuts (however, faworki took 44th place).
This time, attention was drawn to another traditional dish, associated with the Polish People’s Republic, in which it was called “northern ham”, and which still has its great fans to this day. We are talking about brawn, which has just taken first place in the ranking of meat products in the world and meat products in Europe.
Once considered an inferior meat product, today it is considered a unique delicacy for gourmets
– emphasizes TasteAtlas. The encouraging description did not convince users. Salceson was rated only 2.4 stars out of 5 and therefore took first place in the ranking. Right behind it was the Slovak salami, or Liptovská saláma. Rounding out the podium is Smithfield ham, produced in Smithfield, Virginia.
Traditional dishes of the world are rated by users. The rankings are intended to “promote local food”
As TasteAtlas points out, the rankings are created based on user ratings, but the system is resistant to forgeries and votes of bots, “nationalists or local patriots”. Administrators closely monitor activity to exclude manipulation. How was the “79 worst-rated meat products in the world” ranking created? By December 1, 2023, 7,973 assessments were recorded, of which 5,163 were considered correct by the system.
TasteAtlas rankings should not be viewed as definitive opinions on food. Their aim is to promote great local food, instill pride in traditional dishes and spark curiosity about dishes we haven’t tried before.
