Looking into other people’s wallets is the domain of many people. Sometimes it can be very annoying, especially when it is done openly. “I heard that it’s better to transfer this amount of money to a savings account if I don’t have any expenses. Besides, I have a child and maybe I would buy something for him,” complains our reader Iza .

Recently, my mother-in-law asked me about a hairdresser. She wanted to shorten her hair a bit and asked for a recommendation of a salon, because the one she had been going to for 20 years was closed. I told her that I had been looking for a long time for someone who would take care of my hair as God commanded. And I found it. On the other side of the city and I spend PLN 600 per visit.

My mother-in-law grabbed her head, but I’m not going to save money

My mother-in-law looked at me and held her head. I felt a bit stupid, so I started explaining. Actually, I don’t know why, because these are my earnings and my expenses and it’s none of anyone’s business. Well, I say that no one knew how to cut my hair nicely or even wash my hair properly. My previous visits to other salons were a disaster. I’m not a hairdresser, but I’ve experienced everything that can be wrong with hair there. After that, I decided I wasn’t going to save.

It’s not like I go there every month and throw away half a thousand with ease. I make appointments every two months. I trim the ends, bangs and refresh the color. Sometimes a hairdresser will go crazy with something and it will be more expensive. Every now and then I buy conditioner from him for a hundred. Maybe it’s a lot, but my whole life I’ve pinched every penny. Now it’s time to take it back. I don’t work hard every day to not be able to afford a little luxury. I treat these visits as an investment in my mental health. I just sit in a chair and let myself be taken care of. They’ll bring me some coffee. Unlike what I have at home, where I have to jump over everyone and serve everyone.

A hairdresser for PLN 50? “Good luck”

I did not convince my mother-in-law with my explanation. She thinks that there is no point in spending more than PLN 50 on something that grows back immediately and the effect is not permanent. Good luck finding a hairdresser who will cut medium hair for that kind of money. At least here in Warsaw. That’s probably why her salon went bankrupt. I paid PLN 80 for the cheapest visit, and the effect was as I mentioned – all hairdressing sins were checked off.

I heard that it’s better to transfer such money to a savings account if I don’t have any expenses. And besides, I have a child and maybe I would buy something for him. I won’t lie, I started boiling inside after hearing these words. It so happens that I spend more on my child than on myself, and it is my daughter that I always put first. But mom deserves it too. Yes or no? Tell me I’m not alone. Because maybe I really am a monster? Because once in a while I want to take care of myself.
