When the temperature drops below zero, an ice scraper becomes an indispensable attribute of every driver. Not everyone likes snow removal. Sometimes, due to being in a hurry, lack of time or fatigue, car owners do not clear snow thoroughly. It turns out that such an action may end with a heavy fine. This is because a car that is not thoroughly cleaned may pose a threat to the safety of the driver, passengers or other road users. But that’s not the only reason you can be threatened.
Fine for a car not cleared of snow. How much is?
In winter, you are obliged to clean, i.e. remove both snow and ice, from the roof, headlights and all windows and mirrors. Also remember that the license plate should be legible. If you do not do this, you may face a fine of up to PLN 3,000. An invisible license plate may result in as many as 8 penalty points and a fine of PLN 300. Therefore, it is worth ensuring accuracy.
Do you scrape car windows with the engine running? You will pay the fine
Some people, to save time and speed up snow removal, start the engine before picking up the scraper. Warm air can speed up this task, and by the time you’re done scraping the windows and removing snow, the interior of the car will be pleasantly warm. However, this may result in a fine for “nuisance related to excessive emissions of exhaust gases into the environment or excessive noise”. Just clearing snow with the engine running can result in a fine of PLN 100. It is forbidden to leave the engine running when parked in built-up areas. Such a habit may additionally pose a risk of damaging it.
Additionally, it is forbidden to move away from the car with the engine running, as the car should not be left without a driver. This will result in another PLN 50 fine. Scraping the window with the engine running can cost you up to PLN 400. If you want to speed up the scraping of the glass, it is better to use a window defroster. Mix isopropanol or spirit with water in a 3:1 ratio and then pour into a spray bottle. You can also cover the glass with bubble wrap or cardboard to avoid snow removal and scraping.
