Mariah Carey dethroned. The record “All I Want for Christmas is You” broke the hit from 65 years ago

Mariah Carey and her great Christmas hit “All I Want for Christmas is You” were dethroned. The artist’s record was broken by 78-year-old Brenda Lee and her hit from 65 years ago, which had just debuted on the Billboard Hot 100.

Christmas time is inextricably associated with snow, Santa Claus and watching “Home Alone”. In many homes and shopping centers, apart from Christmas carols, you can also hear musical classics that have been a symbol of Christmas for years. The biggest Christmas hits include “All I Want for Christmas is You”. Many thought that only Wham!’s “Last Christmas” could compete with this great hit.

Mariah Carey dethroned. We know the new record holder of the prestigious hit list

“All I Want for Christmas is You” comes from the artist’s fourth album “Merry Christmas” released in 1994. In 2019, the song set a record on the prestigious Billboard Hot 100. Although Carey topped hit charts around the world every year, it was only 25 years after the release of her most popular song that she managed to reach the top of the chart.

Since then, the Christmas hit has been number one on the chart for 12 weeks and is the oldest song to debut at that position. However, this year Mariah Carey was dethroned.

Brenda Lee dethroned the hit “All I Want for Christmas is You”

All thanks to the song “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee. The 1958 hit has a new music video, which has been viewed over 3.5 million times within a month. On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the great hit, the singer also started sharing materials on TikTok.

The artist’s activity meant that the hit “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” debuted on the Billboard Hot 100. The song is currently the oldest song that managed to reach the top of the chart for the first time. Lee is also the oldest person to ever have a hit song on the chart. The artist is now 78 years old, and she recorded the hit when she was just a teenager.

Equally interesting, if “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” had hit the Billboard charts the year it was released, Lee would have been the youngest artist to achieve such an achievement.
