Paweł Stasiak was a star and vocalist of the Papa Dance group in the 1980s. After the band’s breakup, he disappeared from public life, moved to Sweden and fell ill with an incurable disease.

Paweł Stasiak has been drawn to stage performances since he was a child. As a young boy, he became a member of the dance and vocal group “Gawęda”. To improve his skills, he graduated from the dance school at the State Ballet School in Warsaw and obtained a diploma from the Łódź Film School at the Faculty of Television and Film Production.

The artist’s life changed in 1985, when he became the vocalist of the group, where he had previously sung backing vocals. Stasiak replaced Grzegorz Wawrzyszak and became a real star. Almost everyone could hum the hits “Naj Story”, “The Intouchables” and “Our Disneyland”.

However, Papa Dance’s turbulent career did not last long. The band began to have problems, there were splits, quarrels over the name, and finally the band broke up. Stasiak wanted to take a break from public life and went to Sweden, although at that time he was loved by all of Poland.

It was in the most populous country in Scandinavia that Stasiak built his life. “I decided to go to the south of Sweden, specifically to Malmö, from where I can fly to Warsaw every day. I take a 20-minute train to the airport, and the flight itself takes an hour. Some of my colleagues take longer to get to the meeting point before going on tour than I do. ( (laughter). When choosing the city in which I wanted to mix things up, I also wanted to take advantage of the opportunities offered by nearby Copenhagen, which is also a 20-minute train ride across the bridge over the Sound,” he said in an interview with Plejada.

Music was being treated for a disease he didn’t have. “I felt worse and worse”

After leaving, the artist began to implement new ideas, but his illness began to interfere with his work. Although he had no previous health problems, he began to feel strange. “I didn’t know what was happening to me. I did all the tests, but they showed nothing, on the contrary – they showed that I was healthy, that I had a young body without defects. And yet my body started going crazy and it was not known how to tame it “It was the worst because I don’t like situations when I don’t know where I stand. Even though it would be as difficult as possible, I prefer to know the truth so that I can establish a plan of action,” the singer recalled.

In an interview with “WP abczdrowie”, the musician said that seven neurologists incorrectly diagnosed him with Parkinson’s disease. For three months, the singer was treated with strong drugs for a disease from which he did not suffer. “It didn’t help me at all and I felt worse and worse.”

It soon turned out that Stasiak was suffering from Lyme disease. The musician was inspired to look for the causes of his bad condition in a tick bite by an interview with director Magdalena Piekorz. However, the musician’s serious illness looks quite mild. The artist has no problems with walking and is able to function normally. “Of course, I also felt pain to some extent, but not to the extent that I couldn’t go on stage. In this respect, it was certainly easier for me than for people who had another type of Lyme disease,” he noted.
