At the end of October, Michał Wiśniewski was charged with providing false income, as a result of which, almost two decades ago, he was able to take out a loan from SKOK Wołomin for a significant amount of PLN 2.8 million. The singer faces 1.5 years in prison and a fine of PLN 80,000. zloty. However, there was light at the end of the tunnel – the singer’s lawyer decided to speak out in a statement on Wiśniewski’s Instagram.
Lawyers act. An appeal will be filed
Piotr Podgórski, Wiśniewski’s lawyer, presents a detailed statement and defense line in a recording published on the artist’s profile. “Ladies and Gentlemen, acting as Mr. Michał’s defender (…) I would like to first of all inform you that the judgment is not final and an appeal will be filed against it, which we are working on with a team of lawyers. It is impossible to agree with the court’s reasons given in the justification for the judgment.” – he announced. The video ends with the statement that “at this moment, Mr. Michał Wiśniewski is innocent in the eyes of the law.”
An entire team of lawyers is working on Wiśniewski’s case, and he can also count on the great support of his current wife, Pola. However, in October the court found that there was no doubt that the accused had completed all the acts charged in the indictment.
Back to the past. “Three of them are not the Rolling Stones”
The case returned to the docket after a dozen or so years. Let us recall that the loan that Wiśniewski “was not supposed to repay” was granted in 2006. I did not withhold any information (…) I am innocent. I have not committed any of the acts I am accused of, the artist noted in court. Additionally, he pointed out that that year was special for him because he had, among others, he went on tour in the United States, won the Eurovision qualifying round and released an album with the band “Ich Troje”.
However, it was reported via PAP that the prosecutor did not accept this line of defense for Wiśniewski. He argued that “the band’s income should be distinguished from personal income” and that Ich Troje “is not the Rolling Stones”. Well, looking at the fame and popularity of the band at the beginning of this millennium, it is difficult to agree.
The artist explained that he had no need to provide a false declaration of assets. He believes that “the SKOK Wołomin case is widely known” and he was chosen as the “scapegoat” of the whole scandal. During the first hearing in 2021, he assured the court that his financial problems appeared long after the alleged scandal. In a statement from the same year, he asked not to cover his face or hide his name. “I did not plead guilty to the charges brought against me, according to media forecasts,” Wiśniewski announced then.
