One of the strongest controversies faced by the British royal family was the condemnation of racism that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry expressed in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

The Duchess of Sussex revealed that there were comments about the color of her son’s skin before he was born, in an interview that caused a huge storm with the famous presenter.

Faced with these serious allegations, Buckingham Palace has had to break its usual silence and announce an internal investigation into alleged racist comments received by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Now he Omid Scobie’s book, “Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Struggle for Survival,” published on November 28, 2023, reignites the controversy by addressing the issue of racism and naming, allegedly in error, the family members who made the comments.

Who are the racists in the British royal family?

The storm was caused by the publication of a text mercilessly attacking the British royal family. The manuscript accuses King Charles III of making racist comments about the color of his grandson Archie’s skin, statements that were only “mistakenly” published in the Dutch version of the book, which had to be pulled from bookstores as a result, Vanitatis explains. .

Added to this were the revelations of journalist Piers Morgan, former editor of media such as The Sun and The Mirror and known as Meghan Markle’s public enemy number one, who also got involved in the controversy.

On his TalkTV show, he claimed that Kate Middleton was the second racist member of the royal family to appear in Scobie’s text.

“I’m going to stop with this bullshit… and I’m going to mention names two older kings who were named in that Dutch version of the book,” he explained. “The royals mentioned in this book are King Charles III and Catherine, Princess of Wales,” he said in statements quoted by People magazine.

Morgan added that he did not believe “any member of the royal family made any racist comments” and questioned the author about how the name appeared in the Dutch version.

Omid Scobie defends himself

Despite the controversy, the author of the text defended himself and explained that it was a “translation error” of the Dutch version.

Scobie, who gave his first UK interview to ITV’s “This Morning”, assured that he was not responsible for the translations of his lyrics.

“Since I only wrote and edited the English version of Endgame, I can only comment on that manuscript, which does not name the two people who participated in the conversation. I am happy to know that the error in the translation of the Dutch edition is being resolved,” he said in remarks reported by Clarín.

He expressed his “frustration” but not anger at what happened. According to the aforementioned media outlets, he also did not provide any clear explanation as to how that single version of his book actually directly singles out two members of the royal family as racists.

“I never submitted a book with their names on it, so I can only speak for my side,” he said. “I wrote and edited the English version of the book with the editor. The license is then assigned to other publishers. “I don’t speak Italian, German, French, Dutch or any other language it was published in,” he added.

The reaction of King Charles III and Kate Middleton

Days after the book’s release, both the monarch and the Princess of Wales resumed their royal duties.

King Charles traveled to the United Arab Emirates to attend the COP28 climate change summit, where he met Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. When asked about his state of mind, he simply said: “I’m very well, more or less”, not referring to the book, People points out.

For their part, the Princes of Wales also ignored the accusations. William and Kate attended the Royal Variety Performance, a charity show featuring Sweden’s Princess Victoria and her husband Daniel Westling, who are visiting the UK.

When the journalists arrived at the event, they tried to get a statement about the text, but the royal couple did not want to get into a controversy and walked towards the entrance with a smile on their face. (AND)
