Every year the Michelin Guide is updated, which includes the best restaurants in each country. This year, two have entered the highest category, that of three Michelin stars —Enjoy (Barcelona) and Noor (Córdoba)—, while the 13 who were already at the top maintain their distinctions. Only one has entered the category of restaurants with two Michelin stars, Venta Moncalvillo (Daroca de Rioja), which moves up one notch, and another 31 have been added to the extensive list of restaurants with one Michelin star in Spain. full list of Michelin star winners in 2024 It is 272 restaurants, but some have fallen along the way.

One of the ‘losers’ of the day is Angle (Barcelona)one of Jordi Cruz’s restaurants, which got his second star in 2019. Now, four years later, lose one of them, although it remains on the list of restaurants with one star. However, while 31 restaurants have obtained their first Michelin star, another ten disappear from this list, although not necessarily losing it. Technically they are 10 restaurants that have lost their Michelin star by 2024but there are actually only five:

  • Gofio (Madrid)
  • Lúa (Madrid)
  • The Lake (Marbella)
  • The New Mill (Arce Bridge)
  • The Cuina of Can Simón (Tossa de Mar)

Because? Because the other five are in different situations. Andreu Genestra, for example, loses his star in the Capdepera restaurant but he wins it (yes, it is one of the new ones) in his new establishment in Llucmajor. Something similar is what happens with Space N, in Esquedas (Zaragoza): its chef, Eduardo Salanova, moved last summer to his new establishment, the Canfranc Express restaurant, at the Canfranc station, in Huesca. Thus, this new year Espacio N loses its star but Canfranc Express gains it, so more than a loss and a victory, Salanova moves with its Michelin star to another space.

In addition to these, three other restaurants have ‘lost’ their Michelin star, although the most correct thing would be to say that the Michelin Guide loses three stars, because the reason they are no longer on the list is because all three have closed their doors. Chef Nazario Cano announced in September the end of his employment relationship with the ODEÓN restaurant, in Murcia, in order to begin his personal project.

Another of those loses star due to closure is Zurberoa, in Oiartzun, which stopped serving meals on December 30, 2022 after more than half a century, as it did not have a generational replacement who wanted to maintain the restaurant. The same has happened with Arbidel (Ribadesella), which has recently ceased its activity. “Life is cycles and ours in this space has ended“explained chef Jaime Uz to ‘El Comercio’ just a month before the Michelin Stars gala.
