The first series of the program, which started in March 2003, was shown on TVN every day (reports from the home of Michał Wiśniewski and his then wife Mandaryna – Marta Wiśniewska – and son Xavier, and from Ich Troje concerts) and on Sundays – then the program was called ” I am what I am – Ring. On Sunday, there was a summary of the week and – unlike other episodes – the host Hubert Urbański appeared in it.
Hubert Urbański about Michał Wiśniewski: He was burdensome to himself and to those around him
Urbański was already after the success of the first “Millionaires”, but a reality show with a celebrity was a completely different professional challenge for him. In the “ring” he had to deal with the personality of Wiśniewski, for whom it was the most successful period in his career. Ich Troje was one of the most popular Polish bands at that time, their album “A po fifth… let them talk” sold 700,000. copies, and although it did not contain such big hits, the sales confirmed the group’s status after the album “Ad. 4” released a year earlier with the hits “Powiedz” and “Always z nami I would like to…”. These were two diamond albums by Ich Troje.
In “Podcasteks”, Urbański recalls working on the 13-episode “I am what I am” as a tiring time. – We all got into this bus and very quickly found out who the driver was, because he (Michał Wiśniewski – ed.) was the driver and the engine at the same time – he said. – It was like that saying about flying a helicopter: both funny and scary. He was a nuisance to himself and those around him. (…) His attitude was: if you don’t want it, then no, I’m going to the room. Everyone must have been worried about when he would leave this room. Just like a spoiled five-year-old, which can upset the whole family in the entire house – he added.
The host of “Millionaires” in “I am what I am” was replaced by Sołtysik
The second (last) series of the TVN program was hosted by Andrzej Sołtysik. No wonder Urbański was missing, since years later he describes “I am what I am” with the following words: “Living with crazy people. […] It made us all crawl. […] You couldn’t get out of the pool halfway through, you had to finish the session.
A lot of participants signed up for this tournament. At the turn of March and April 2003, “I am what I am – Ring” was the second most popular TVN program. “Adam Małysz continues to attract viewers. Friday’s broadcast of the World Championships from Val di Fiemme was watched by almost 11.5 million Poles. Meanwhile, the reality show with Michał Wiśniewski is becoming more and more popular. Sunday’s “I am what I am – ring” was watched by 4.4 million viewers. For comparison, “Fakty” on February 24, 2003 (TVN’s hit of the week) was watched by 4.7 million viewers” – Wirtualne Media website.
