Ministers and deputy ministers who will not be part of the new government are entitled to “severance pay”, or simply put, remuneration, which they will receive for a period of no longer than three months. This results from Art. 5 section 1 of the Act on the right to previous remuneration, which reads:
“Persons dismissed from managerial state positions and persons who ceased to perform functions in these positions due to the expiry of the term of office, retain, subject to paragraph 2, the right to the previous remuneration for the period:
- 1) one month – if they performed this function for a period not longer than three months;
- 2) two months – if they performed this function for a period longer than three months and not longer than 12 months;
- 3) three months – if they performed this function for a period longer than 12 months.
The minister who will have to resign from his current position after two weeks can count on an additional remuneration of PLN 17,600. In turn, politicians who perform their duties for more than a year may receive up to PLN 53,000 gross.
