“Madonna” has become a new point on the map of Warsaw restaurants. The restaurant is distinguished not only by its name, but also by its decor, which was condemned by representatives of Catholic circles as “blasphemous”. This is about the image of the Madonna, which was presented in the Warsaw venue in various forms, from those directly referring to religion (for example, a figurine of the Virgin Mary with a QR code) to paintings in which Mary’s face was replaced with the faces of famous artists (including, for example, Rihanna). . The place also serves drinks in a vessel in the shape of a naked female bust.
A Warsaw restaurant in our sights
Catholics protesting in front of the entrance opposed what guests visiting the Warsaw “Madonna” can see. A group of about 4 people appeared in front of the premises with a large painting of Jesus Christ and then began to pray together. The recording of this event was posted online by Arek Kłusowski, a participant in the 3rd edition of “The Voice of Poland”.
News of the opening of the “blasphemous restaurant” also reached journalists of the Catholic portal Prawy.pl, which posted an article on its website condemning this form of free expression. “Some people say that when you enter, you can hear songs performed by Madonna, a blasphemous singer. There are dozens of paintings with Madonna, but she is painted with the face of various famous artists, known for sexual excesses and others. There is also, I noticed, “such a picture means a photo from the place where there is a statue of Our Lady and above it there is the inscription Relaks,” we read in the text.
“Madonna” actually stands out from so many other places in terms of its unusual and, one might even say, avant-garde decor. The character of a given place is one of the most important reasons why guests visit the restaurant of their choice. When talking about unusual decor, it is worth mentioning, for example, the Latvian restaurant Hospitalis, whose interior is supposed to resemble a hospital corridor, and the Opaque restaurant chain, where meals are eaten in absolute darkness.
