– I knew that if I was obese, it would not be enough to go on a diet. I needed professional care. I made an appointment with a diabetologist and a dietitian – and it was the wisest decision I made, she announced.
She emphasized that medical support was crucial in this process. The psychologist was diagnosed with insulin resistance, and the doctor prescribed her appropriate medications. She also received medications to support the reduction diet. She admitted that thanks to appetite suppressant pills she lost as much as 20 kg. The next stage, however, was much more complicated. The psychologist focused on mental and physical work on herself.
It started with mental work – a change of approach, arousing an adult, mature personal narrative, i.e. the decision to start working on myself seriously and change my lifestyle forever. I made a very detailed plan for climbing my reduction Giewont: diet, exercise and coming up with solutions in case of temptations.
– she told a WP journalist.
Katarzyna Kucewicz lost 60 kg. “It’s a myth that you have to eat things you hate”
The dietitian, in turn, taught her healthy eating habits. Katarzyna Kucewicz, however, confessed that it was not a path without obstacles. He is a person who likes only selected food products and does not like vegetables, for example. The specialist made her aware that this was not a problem. And you don’t have to force yourself to eat something you don’t like.
However, the dietitian showed me that if I don’t like beets or carrots, I don’t have to eat them to lose weight. It’s a myth that on a diet you have to eat things you hate
– Kucewicz emphasized.
She added that during the reduction (which she is still on), the basis was, of course, the caloric deficit – i.e. absorbing fewer calories per day than our caloric needs indicate. She emphasized that she also implemented subsequent steps one by one to accustom her mind and body to the dramatic changes that were taking place in her lifestyle.
Mental work, calorie deficit, reduction. Katarzyna Kucewicz revealed how she lost 60 kg
She gradually reduced her calorie intake and started regular sport only after some time. – However, when I dropped below 100 kg, I started exercising regularly, starting with 150 minutes of activity a week – she said. Today, physical activity is an integral part of her day. – This includes not only sports, but also housework, cleaning, going to the store, shopping, etc. – she told Ewa Podsiadły-Natorska.
She also mentioned that she had difficult moments while losing weight. – I had moments of breakdown, crying, giving up, feeling that I couldn’t cope. Especially when the drugs stopped working and my appetite started coming back. I felt hungry, sometimes frustrated (…). I felt resentment and injustice that others ate and I didn’t, she said. But then she quickly remembered that everything she did, she did for the sake of herself. It helped her persevere.
“People can be attractive at any size”
She also emphasized that she decided to lose the extra weight not because of her appearance. Because – as she pointed out – you can be attractive at any size, and this is a very true statement. – I was at a point in my life when I felt at peace with my appearance. My obesity didn’t bother me: I was loved, I had a job, I traveled, she said. Health issues pushed her to make changes: difficulties with breathing and daily activities.
I felt like an attractive woman. Besides, I still think people can be attractive at any size. Nowadays I often hear: “Now you look nice.” But I liked myself earlier too, I didn’t feel like I had to fit into any canon. I lived my life
– she pointed.
