Although the artists formed a harmonious duo on stage and seemed to have friendly relations, the reality was completely different from the imagination. As soon as they disappeared backstage, the atmosphere became tense. One of the reasons for the conflict was Bregović’s impulsiveness and too high opinion of himself. in many interviews she argued that the composer had a huge ego, was arrogant and limited her artistically, dictating the conditions and form of joint performances. One such situation was particularly memorable for her. – I remember our first performance together in Sopot. We sang “I Once Was a Rose” and “Right to Left” for the first time. Goran said: “You have to sit here next to me on the chair all the time!” – .
During the first song, she actually didn’t get up from her chair, but when the second one started, she got carried away by her emotions and didn’t comply with the request. This angered Bregović. – I couldn’t stand it and jumped on stage to kidnap people. He was very offended at me. However, this is not the only issue that divided the musicians. The singer never hid that it all started with a dispute over money. Apparently, Kayah and she signed a contract that was not very favorable for the artist. All the money earned together did not go to the composer’s private account. This was the final straw. – Goran has not settled accounts with me yet. I’m not enthusiastic about this man. I must say that he is a very specific guy who likes to control everything. At the same time, he can be very inelegant, Kayah said coldly.
Ultimately, the artists reached an agreement in 2016, when, during a concert in Poland, Bregović invited the singer to the stage. Then they reached an agreement, and the event so delighted the listeners that they decided to organize a joint tour, which they went on a year later. – Our relationships have changed, they are more like partnerships. I’m not just some young girl anymore.
