The proceedings of the 10th term of the Sejm are breaking popularity records on the Internet and are also very popular on television. So far, the politician who attracts the most attention is the Speaker of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, who is introducing a new quality of communication to the parliament. Apart from the fact that he is very specific in formal matters, when he sees such a need, he does not spare subtle retorts.
Szymon Hołownia tries to treat everyone equally. However, there are limits
Last Thursday, an employee of Telewizja Polska found this out when, during a press conference, he decided to ask Marshal Hołownia about one of the most intriguing topics for viewers of the (still) government media, i.e. the study of Russian influence in Poland.
Interestingly, during the same conference, the Speaker of the Sejm clearly said that the secret services should be responsible for investigating Russian influence in Poland. However, the TVP Info reporter was not satisfied with this statement and decided to pursue the topic further.
– The whole problem is that when it comes to using Pegasus, the special services are suspected of using it in an unauthorized manner. If we were now to expect that the secret services that are suspected of something would explain matters related to how the secret services operated, I am afraid that we would not be effective enough, Hołownia replied.
This time, the young man working at TVP did not budge, asking another question about the plan to establish a commission to investigate Russian influence. Marshal Hołownia clearly wanted to cut the topic short by disclosing indisputable facts. – Law and Justice ruled in Poland for 8 years, it had all the tools and all the services in the world to catch every Russian influence that could appear in Poland, but for some reason it did not do it – he said.
As the proverb says: “He who lives by the sword dies by the sword”
Then an employee of Telewizja Polska came up with an unusual initiative. He stated that it would be a good idea to create joint commissions that would jointly look for Russian influence in Poland in previous years. Then Marshal Hołownia let go of the brakes and it could have been one of the worst days of his career for the TVP employee:
Are you saying that during Jarosław Kaczyński’s rule as deputy prime minister for security, there was Russian influence in the Polish services? Is that what you wanted to say? It’s terrifying, Hołownia said sarcastically.
The TVP Info reporter then tried to defend himself, explaining that he had not clearly stated that Russian influence existed, but that in his opinion they could have existed. The Marshal of the Sejm said that he “curiously accepts your point of view” and announced that he would talk to the leaders of democratic political parties:
Maybe it really needs to be checked even more thoroughly, how the Deputy Prime Minister for Security, Jarosław Kaczyński, behaved, how the entire PiS government behaved in this matter and whether it did not allow any Russian influence. Maybe you’re right. Maybe we should look into it, he replied.
Then he said that he wanted to focus on other issues first, starting with the visa scandal. – I assure you that although I am a humble rotating marshal and will only be here for two years, during this term we will really be able to show you the truth, above all. Because the truth – as the classic said – will set us free. In many areas of our lives, he concluded.
