Lauren Kavanaugh was born in 1993 in Dallas and was adopted by Sabrina and Bill Kavanaugh. Unfortunately, after 8 months, her biological mother, Barbara Atkinson, decided to fight for her daughter. Although the adoptive parents suspected that something was wrong, the court downplayed their concerns. In 1995, Lauren returned to her biological mother and her partner.
She returned to her biological mother. Almost immediately the nightmare began
Lauren’s ordeal began on the first day. She was constantly punished, beaten and even starved. Barbara kept saying she was a “bad baby.” When Lauren was 2.5 years old, she locked her in a closet. After many hours, she was released by her stepfather, who then sexually abused her and locked her again in the dark interior. Over the next few years, the piece of furniture was a place where she spent almost all her days.
Lauren was repeatedly abused by both her mother, stepfather and guests visiting their home. In addition, they abused her mentally and physically by beating her, starving her, threatening to kill her and waterboarding her on several occasions. She couldn’t even go to the toilet. The food she received was only to keep her alive, and even then Barbara was incredibly cruel. She only allowed her to chew, but not swallow, the meals she gave her daughter.
She was rescued years later. She weighed 11 kg
Lauren was freed on June 11, 2001, when one of her neighbors learned of her fate. Even though she was 8 years old, she looked no more than 3 and was so fit that she weighed only about 11 kilograms. There were many changes on the body, wounds, traces of beatings and cigarette burns. – We have already had children who were beaten, starved, sexually abused, neglected and mentally abused. But we’ve never had a child come to us who had it all – one of the doctors fighting for her life. Lauren’s parents received life sentences with the possibility of parole in 2031.
She was adopted again. After graduating, she helped victims of violence
Lauren was adopted for the second time by Sabrina and Bill. She struggled with many ailments, including mood disorders and . She took her own life thirty times. She managed to complete her psychology studies and then start supporting victims of domestic violence. This is how she met a 14-year-old girl with whom she had sexual contact. She faced long-term imprisonment for this. Ultimately, she was sent for psychiatric treatment.
