The president of TVP, Mateusz Matyszkowicz, admitted that one of the materials on TVP Info contained inappropriate elements that should never have been on television. He assured that the authors of the report had already been punished.

The president admitted that the materials used in TVP Info were unacceptable. Matyszkowicz replied to the Commissioner for Human Rights, who intervened in the case, that he fully agreed that such images should not be included in the program. He assured that those responsible for the material had been punished and expressed regret that such a situation had occurred.

On September 26, TVP Info broadcast material about retirees and pensioners who received their 14th pension for the last time this year. An elderly woman answered the station’s questions and emphasized that in her situation, “any support is good.” She also added that “man is still alive and constantly needs something.” The second shot showed a woman crossing the street. It was clearly visible that the elderly person had a large, dark stain on his clothes. Viewers were disgusted that such a fragment appeared on television.

The Ombudsman intervened in the case. The deputy Ombudsman, Stanisław Trociuk, asked TVP for explanations and ordered the chairman of the National Broadcasting Council to investigate the entire matter. “Public presentation of such material may be considered a violation of human dignity, which includes, among others, all those values ​​that determine the subjective position of an individual in society and which, according to popular opinion, contribute to the respect due to every person,” Trociuk explained the seriousness of the situation.

Mateusz Matyszkowicz noted that the company’s authorities immediately implemented procedures and punished the people responsible for broadcasting this fragment on TVP Info. “The material inadmissibly depicts a random elderly person in stained clothing, which could have violated not only her right to privacy, but above all her sense of dignity,” Matyszkowicz agreed with the deputy Ombudsman.

The president of TVP regrets the situation which, in his opinion, “should not have happened.” “I fully share your assessments expressed in the letter presented,” he replied to Trociuk. “The method of implementation, construction and finally allowing the broadcast of the above material was unacceptable and violated the principles of professionalism and ethics that employees and collaborators of Telewizja Polska should follow in their professional work,” adds Matyszkowicz.

At the same time, the president of TVP emphasizes that his employees did not act on purpose. However, this does not justify the station, and Matyszkowicz agrees that the criticism towards Telewizja Polska was right in this case. “I would also like to inform you that Telewizja Polska SA has decided to implement additional control procedures aimed at preventing similar situations in the future,” the Wirtualne Media portal quotes the president. The chairman of the National Broadcasting Council has not yet responded to the letter from the deputy Ombudsman.
