“People called me fat.” He heard that she has “the beauty of a lover, but it is spoiled by her “fluctuating body weight”

“Wysokie obcasy” published a moving interview with Robert Kudelski about, among others: self-acceptance of one’s own body. As we know, in the actor’s profession it is an extremely important tool, often exposed to (often groundless) harsh criticism.

This type of criticism and harmful stereotypes about being overweight may not only contribute to the development of eating disorders, but also lead to various types of depressive episodes. Today, Robert Kudelski is the ambassador of the campaign. An action that draws attention, among others, on how this disease should be talked about. Because it is worth realizing that people struggling with significant weight fluctuations do not need false concern from well-wishers or pseudo-motivating comments telling them to “go for a run.”

The ambassadors of the campaign point out that obesity most often has causes that are not visible at first glance. These may include, for example, serious chronic diseases, the treatment of which is burdensome and requires many sacrifices. The organizers of the campaign created a book that teaches how to write about obesity.

It is an excellent source of updated knowledge for all those who want to talk and write about obesity and people suffering from it – in an empathetic, responsible way, without harmful stereotypes. “Let’s remember that obesity is a disease. It doesn’t mean that someone doesn’t take care of themselves. Let’s not exclude, let’s support,” says Robert Kudelski on the campaign’s home page.

“People called me fat and piglet”

At first, there was doubt in his mind.

The campaign made me wonder whether I would like to talk about my body nowadays, with such developed social media, where only the beautiful and slim dominate. Or rather – a complex (…)

– he confessed in a conversation with Ɓukasz Pilip. He added that this coincided with numerous articles about his weight loss and weight gain. He added that their content was usually significantly different from the truth, although the fact is that his weight fluctuated at that time. “Then I realized that I had a problem. But I also had zero knowledge about it (…)” – he said.

He also revealed what comments he had encountered in the past. He mentioned, among others: about how mean people writing comments online could be. “People called me fat and a piglet. They also wrote that people like me, i.e. those suffering from obesity, were unnecessarily pushing themselves to watch television,” recalled Robert Kudelski.

“I never accepted my body”

He experienced uncomfortable comments already in his childhood. “And then, when I entered the acting profession, I was always told that I weighed too much,” he said. “They even said that if I lost weight, I would have a better career. I was good at many castings, let me say immodestly. But again: ‘Kudelski, lose weight, or you won’t get a role!’. When I really wanted a role, it was written into the contract that I had lose weight. Once I was told to lose as much as 20. And in a month! (…)” – he described.

The directors claimed that I had the beauty of a lover, but it was spoiled by my constantly fluctuating body weight

– comes from the actor’s memories, which he recalls in an interview with “WO”.

Since I experienced all this, I came to the conclusion that I understand people with obesity (…). There are people who live in smaller towns than me. They most likely face even greater exclusion there. I just wanted to support them. Please don’t glorify me because of this

– said the actor. He added that thanks to the action, he also realized something. “(…) Something broke inside me. I realized that I had never accepted my body. Even when I weighed 74 kilos and people praised that I looked like Adonis,” he confessed.
