The chef pin challenge, contested tonight by José Andrés Caballero, Susi Hidalgo, José Pacheco, Sergio ‘el Heladero’, Hellen Quiñóñez and Alberto Astudillo, activated the best gastronomic memories of the participants of Masterchef Celebrity Ecuador (Teleamazonas).
It was the special case of the couples coach Susi Hidalgo. “In my house with my German grandmother we made sauerkraut and pickled veterabas (sic) and pickled gherkins, which were kept in a dark place,” Hidalgo recalls.
According to the therapist, it was an invariable custom in her home to accompany sauerkraut with pork, so when her father, “very Ecuadorian,” saw the sauerkraut, he already knew there was pork in the house.
“My grandmother always cooked a lot and my mother didn’t cook at all, but there was always someone who did. Summoning my grandmother gives me great joy,” added the communicator, who added that her grandmother became her example of struggle.
For the chef’s pin challenge, which consisted of making a preparation with foods that do not require refrigeration, such as pickles, fermented, salted, Susi Hidalgo selected smoked pork, oyster mushrooms and sauerkraut.
