‘Matrix resurrections’ under the direction of one of the Wachowski sisters

The film’s synopsis is still being kept under wraps, but Lana Wachowski explains why she doesn’t co-direct with her sister Lilly.

Lilly Wachowski and Lana Wachowski, collectively known as the Wachowski, gained fame for their highly successful franchise. The Matrix a few days after being released Matrix, resurrecciones, Lilly told why she did not want to participate in this production. “I did not want to have gone through my transition and at the same time have this great shock in my life, the feeling of loss of my mom and dad (deceased), wanting to go back to something that I had done before and something like that. I walked the old ways that I had passed, I felt emotionally unsatisfied. I wanted to spend some time away from the industry, “he said when the press asked him why he did not accompany his sister in the direction of the new installment that brings Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss back as Neo and Trinity.

Both sisters have directed all of their films together since their debut. in 1996 with the thriller Burning Ties. Their careers as directors have run together, always linked with a third name: Matrix, the title of the trilogy that put them in their sights. For this reason, the announcement that the new installment of Matrix, almost two decades after the previous one, going to be directed by Lana Wachowski alone was a surprise.

The separation of Lana and Lilly has not been a dramatic break between sisters, but a friendly separation (hopefully temporary) due to the different ways that each of them has to face life. “My father died, then this friend died, then my mother too. I didn’t know how to process that kind of pain… One night I was crying and couldn’t sleep, and this whole story exploded in my brain. I couldn’t have my parents, but suddenly I had Neo and Trinity, possibly the two most important characters in my life, ”Lana said during the Berlin International Literature Festival.

For Lana (56 years old), thinking of Neo and Trinity together again was like a comforting balm. Both had died in Matrix Revolutions, Neo had been carried away by the machines and Trinity had passed away earlier encouraging the hero: but now Lana could do her screenwriting magic and bring them back to life. “Doesn’t it feel good? That is what art does. That’s what stories do: they comfort us, ”said Lana.

The plot of the saga in its fourth installment is kept in absolute secret until its premiere, but in the trailer it is seen that the relationship of the protagonists, who were believed to be dead, but they seem to have rebooted without remembering anything from their past, nor from each other, although Neo is suffering flashbacks of his previous life. “Go back to the source,” says one of their promotional posters.

“Lana Wachowski wrote a beautiful script and a wonderful story that suited me. That is the only reason to do it. Working with her again is just amazing. It was really special and I think that history has some significant things to say, and from which we can draw, ”said Reeves.

While Jessica Henwick pointed out during the Comicbook that this new movie “Will change the industry again”: “There are definitely moments on set where Yahya (Abdul-Mateen II) and I look at each other and just disappear. Lana is doing really cool stuff on a technical level in the same way that she created a style back then. I think the industry will change again with this movie. There are some camera equipment that I have never seen before that we are using. That’s probably all I can say about it. “

In any case, two decades after the first installments of Matrix, we will see Neo and Trinity again in this installment that seems to focus on a new awakening of the protagonist. A rather complicated task on the part of the lonely filmmaker, but Lana Wachowski has already shown what she is capable of.

The cast of Matrix Resurrections It also has Jada Pinkett Smith (Niobe) and new additions to the saga such as Jessica Henwick, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Groff and Toby Onwumere.

Premiere in Ecuador on December 22.
