Mrs Nicaragua, Sheynnis Alondra Palacios Cornejo, The 23-year-old model and community promoter was chosen Miss Universe 2023 tonight, marking the first time a woman of her nationality and a Central American woman have received the crown.

Sheynnis is the winner of the three most important beauty pageants in Nicaragua: Miss Teen Nicaragua 2016, Miss World Nicaragua 2020 and Miss Nicaragua 2023.

The first and second runner-ups were chosen as Miss Thailand (Anntonia Porsild) and Miss Australia (Moraya Wilson).

The new queen received the crown from her predecessor, the American R’Bonney Gabriel. She was immediately surrounded by her classmates, who improvised a dance around her.

A few minutes ago she had answered the question: If you could put yourself in the shoes of any woman for a day, who would you choose? AND chose an unusual character: an 18th-century English writer and philosopher who fought for the rights of working women.

Sheynnis Palacios was born in Managua. He attended Central American University and received a degree in social communications. She is an entertainer, brand ambassador and beauty queen.

He is also a representative of the mental health education project Understand your Mind. And she was the host of the morning magazine Al Día, which airs on Channel 11 in Nicaragua.

Just before the competition, the new Miss Universe posted the following: “We have arrived at the day that my inner child most looks forward to and which is now a dream, accompanied by more than 6 million Nicaraguans. Tonight I dedicate it to my inner child and to each of the girls who long to fulfill this dream, even the sky is not the limit, dream so big that people think it is impossible to achieve, because then you know your dreams and goals will overcome barriers, and don’t forget to guide them with determination, perseverance and passion.

His signature costume, created by designer Jorge Salazar, paid tribute to the Nicaraguan grackle, (Quiscalus nicaraguensis) a bird endemic to Central America, living only around the lakes of Nicaragua and northern Costa Rica. For other moments of the competition, she was dressed by designer Jared Bermúdez.
