he became program director of TVN in 1998. He worked at the station for the next 24 years. A year ago, he surprised everyone with his decision to transfer to Polsat, where he has been vice-president of the management board and program director since January. Will there be more changes soon?
Does Edward Miszczak have a chance to become the president of TVP?
Recently, unofficial information about the tense relations between Miszczak and the president of Polsat, StanisÅ‚aw Janowski, circulated in the media. It is said that the station’s spring schedule recorded poor results, and the new products introduced by the new director turned out to be a failure. Unofficial reports indicate that Miszczak will be removed from creating the next schedule in spring and will only act as a consultant. Polsat spokesman Tomasz Matwiejczuk denies the informants’ words.
However, the rumor sparked further speculation. According to Wirtualne Media, there are speculations that Miszczak is being considered as one of the candidates for president. “It’s all rumors,” Polsat’s program director allegedly replied to “Fakt’s” message. He reportedly added an emoticon with a wide smile to the message.
“Whether we like it or not – he’s a bastard”
Would Edward Miszczak be a good fit as the president of TVP? Prof. Maciej Mrozowski, media expert, head of the Department of Communication and Media at the SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities with Virtual Media, emphasized that it depends on the strategy that the government will implement. If the repair of public media is limited to returning to the state before PiS rule, in his opinion, Miszczak has a good chance to prove himself as president. However, according to the expert, the new authorities should also adapt their offer to young recipients. “However, if the new TVP authorities chose a more progressive variant, he is not suitable for it, because – whether we like it or not – he is an old man who did not prove himself after moving to Polsat,” says Mrozowski. At the same time, the expert emphasizes that he does not discredit Miszczak’s extensive knowledge and experience, but many years of work in the position mean the risk of repeating patterns and habits.
A different position was taken by prof. WiesÅ‚aw Godzic, who also wondered who is today’s recipient of public media. “Only citizens look for such media. If there is no citizen, the media are unnecessary, because now people are mainly looking for entertainment. In this context, Miszczak would be someone very needed on TVP,” he says in an interview with Wirtualne Media. However, he would see Miszczak more in the role of TVP program director than president. “He knows this,” the expert notes. “Miszczak knows how to look for programs and formats. TVN’s strength was finding cool programs for an increasingly larger audience,” he adds.
