Clean windows and washed curtains hanging in them please the eyes and senses of all those who care about impeccable order at home. However, often, even after washing, what we hang in the windows does not resemble snow-white curtains straight from washing powder advertisements. Before we go to the store to buy new items, it is worth testing a certain trick.
Expensive chemicals don’t always work
In chemical stores we can find many different agents for whitening materials. However, these can be really expensive, and what’s more, they don’t always work as we would like. Especially those containing chlorine, they can additionally weaken the fibers and thus destroy our curtains. It turns out that to whiten them we do not have to spend a fortune or expose them to destruction.
Take two things from the kitchen
There are a lot of products in our home that we can use for household cleaning. We often use baking soda, vinegar or citric acid for this purpose. Gray curtains can also be easily treated with products that we probably already have at home. And even if not, you just need to spend just a few zlotys in the first store you find.
Ordinary hydrogen peroxide combined with baking soda and water is perfect for whitening curtains. Pour warm water and a quarter cup of hydrogen peroxide into the bowl, plus a glass of baking soda. Mix the mixture. We put our curtains inside and soak them thoroughly. We leave them for 30 minutes. After this time, put it in the washing machine and wash it as usual. Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide have brightening properties, so they are perfect for gray curtains. This trick can also be used with towels, socks and other materials. If they are additionally stained, e.g. with grease, it is worth adding a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid to the rinse.
