The 65th edition of Zinebi starts tonight at the Arriaga Theater in Bilbao to begin a week of cinema in all its formats and styles, beyond the short films and documentary films that give the international festival its name.

One more year, the seven Basque short films that compete in the official section will be the first to be screened during the opening gala, at 7:30 p.m., which will be performed by La Dramática Errante (Ane Pikaza and María Goiricelaya).

Among the short films, common on screens such as Isabel Herguera (with The illustrated woman), Laida Lertxundi and Ren Ebel (with In a Nearby Field) and David Pérez Sañudo (with Sour) will be seen together with the premiere of Eneko Sagardoy in the direction (with Betiko gauawritten together with the bertsolari Nerea Ibarzabal). Memories of an Empty House (Bruno Carnide), Salt covers everything (Joana Moya) and Ximinoa (Itziar Leemans) complete the list of Basque short films in competition.

In the official section, feature films, both documentaries and fictions, which are debut works of their directors, also compete within ZIFF-Zinebi First Film. Unfortunately, the 93-year-old American director is hospitalized due to a sudden worsening of his health and has canceled his trip. His production company, Zipporah Films, has told Zinebi that the director “wanted to go to Bilbao” and that until now he had participated normally in various meetings with the public and the media after releasing his most recent documentary in his country. .

As always, Zinebi will bring a selection of the best documentaries of the season on Beautiful Docs.
