The screening of “The Green Border” took place on November 13 at the Vatican Film Archive. The event was attended by many representatives of the clergy of the Catholic Church. This year, the Tertio Millennio Film Fest festival, founded by the Polish Pope and organized jointly with the Holy See, is held under the slogan “harmony in diversity”.
Agnieszka Holland with a prestigious award at the film festival founded by John Paul II
On November 14, Agnieszka Holland spoke at the Nuovo Olimpia cinema in Rome, where another screening of her film took place. It was there that the Polish director received the Fuoricampo Special Award, which is awarded every year to a film that “moves people’s consciences and opens the hearts of viewers.”
I was a political emigrant myself, but it does not compare to the situation of people hiding in the forests, said Holland before Wednesday’s screening of the film.
Father Davide Milani, parish priest of Lecco, secretary general of the Fondazione Pontificia Gravissimum Educationis and director of the Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo, was delighted with the “green border”. “This is a dramatic testimony that calls us to take a stand in the face of migration,” said the priest about Agnieszka Holland’s film.
In turn, Pope Francis, in a letter addressed to the faithful related to the World Day of Migrants and Refugees, wrote: “It is necessary that every person, every woman, is guaranteed the opportunity to come and live with dignity in the society in which she finds herself.”
According to information provided by the film’s distributor Kino Świat, “Green Border” will be shown in the following countries: USA, Japan, Switzerland, Greece, Ukraine, Spain, Austria, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Iceland, France, Benelux countries, Italy, Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia, Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The film also turned out to be a great success in Poland, despite the campaign against it by United Right politicians. “The Green Border” had one of the best openings for a Polish film this year. In the first weekend, it was watched by as many as 137,000 viewers! So far, it has been seen by over 750,000 viewers, and the film is still shown in many cinemas.
