Although the residents of Kaszubska Street in Szczecin have known him for years, it was only in 2023 that his fame reached the rest of the country. And it’s all thanks to Google Maps. The website recognized Gacek as a local attraction, and there was a real frenzy about him. Tourists, including foreign ones, visited the city in droves to meet the cat, and souvenirs with its image appeared in stores. This moment didn’t last long, however. The animal quickly disappeared from the city’s image. Was fame weighing on him? It was pregnant, but something completely different.
Not only Polish media, but also foreign ones, wrote about plump Gacek. In such magazines as, among others, “Guardian” or “Bild” presented the fate of a homeless dog. In April 2023, the Szczecin Animal Welfare Society decided to react and take the cat off the street. Some residents were outraged. What was the reason?
The dark side of fame. I gained weight
It turns out that it was the “revelry” lifestyle that led Gacek to be extremely overweight. At the same time, he did not take care of his joints and teeth. An unbalanced diet was to blame for this. But who doesn’t “eat” their stress? Social activists decided to help him get back into shape.
We watched Gacek. It was necessary to plan research. We tried to do them quite regularly. His fame was becoming greater and greater, and we looked at it with concern. Last Wednesday we managed to take Gacek away, because it wasn’t that easy either. He underwent comprehensive tests.
