“Wiadomości” provided the latest information from the country and the world. This is an important, first edition with the new Sejm and Senate of the Republic of Poland, after numerous political events that will shape Poland in the weeks, months and years to come. It would seem that the wind of change has reached not only the parliament, but also Polish Television. None of these things. At least for now.
The first “Wiadomości” TVP with the new Sejm as usual
Monday’s “” was hosted by Marta Kielczyk, a new acquisition of TVP. The program began with the most important event in the country, i.e. the first meeting of both houses of parliament. Fragments of President Andrzej Duda’s speech were shown, when he said that he was ready to cooperate with anyone and appealed for unity. However, as announced in the commentary to the material, the new Sejm means old frictions.
There must have been a cut with Donald Tusk, emphasizing his previous announcements that he never planned to become an MP again. Hołownia, the new Speaker of the Sejm, was not spared any criticism. “With the votes of the opposition – including the Confederation – a debutant became the marshal.” Was it said in the material that Hołownia has no plans to keep various bills in the so-called freezer? Or was it mentioned that every club – even the smallest – was to be heard under his leadership? And where is it? Viewers of “Wiadomości” learned that he “announced the launch of a parliamentary podcast.”

It was also recalled that there is an ongoing dispute over the former PiS speaker, Elżbieta Witek. She was not reappointed for another term, although she was the only candidate proposed by PiS. It was emphasized that this situation was the “first upset” in the Sejm.
“Wiadomości” doesn’t love the Left – and that’s a very delicate phrase
The Left as an anti-hero appeared in the main issue of “Wiadomości” several times, and there is no point in looking for a positive tone in the materials about it. Immediately after a short report from the first session of the Sejm, it was mentioned in a separate material that the Left plans to significantly relax the abortion law in Poland. To prevent viewers from feeling too comfortable and remembering who tightened the law and led to the Black Protests, a dramatic camera shot was used to focus on the Left MPs who announced the legalization of abortion up to the 12th week of pregnancy. The coalition PSL will most likely have problems with this project. The drama was maintained until the end of the material, when viewers were asked rhetorically: “What does the future hold for the coalition of divergences?”
Also in the next material, the Left appeared as the party that wanted to destroy Polish agriculture. “Accusations against the Left and the Greens” were made by trade unionists and politicians, and they warned of a “wave of protests” if the new government did not accept agricultural demands.
After three political materials, world events were briefly mentioned (evacuation of Poles from Israel, general situation in the Gaza Strip, a few sentences about cyclone Debi, the situation in Melitopol and the erupting volcano in Sicily) and social problems, i.e. vision problems. As part of the mission to encourage citizens to take care of themselves, they talked about the need to have their eyesight checked at least once in a while. The historic murder of Papala was also mentioned – new decisions were made in court in this case.
However, the rest of politics was not long. The next four materials left no doubt about the plans for Poland of the opposition, which, unlike Mateusz Morawiecki, will most likely form a government soon.
“News” as a warning – about the army, the courts and ourselves
The subsequent materials talked about the latest distant plans of some European Union members to create a common federal government. They were not left without appropriate comment. It was recalled that the government took money from OFE and raised the retirement age. Kaczyński’s words warned about the fall of Poland and the rule of Poles “from outside”, for which the PiS president was widely criticized.
It was announced who became and who did not become marshal. It was once again said that Elżbieta Witek did not receive the appropriate number of votes, but her lack of election does not mean the end of the matter.
In the material about the changes in the judiciary planned by the opposition, the word “revenge” was used three times – there was even a temptation to sum up the projects to clean up the judiciary after the PiS changes as a “coalition of revenge”, for which the well-being of citizens is not important.

The political marathon in “Wiadomości” ended with material about “Wiadomości”. It was recalled that the opposition was planning “radical changes, perhaps even in violation of the law”, which would be a “real threat to pluralism”.
